Hi Guys as topic states what I would like to eventually do is use the Mini PCI slot to have another GPU on the Board, This will be 7 GPUs in total

There is only one MiniPCI slot and I was wondering If I could use a Mini PCI - 1x PCI-e Adapter http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-PCI-E-PCI-express-to-PCI-E-1X-Card-adapter-Riser-Extender-USB-port-/271353807736?pt=AU_CablesConnectors&hash=item3f2df28378&_uhb=1

As you see there. Once the adapter is on I then plug a Powered Riser cable going from 1x - 16x.. Then Finally Plug the GPU in.

I think this is possible I just want to confirm if anyone has seen it done or has done it

Depends on how many lanes your gpu-card is using.

 Huh

Lol sorry This is something I have never heard off , Yes I looked at the link you posted but still over my head.... Let me explain to you what I have or I should say what I will have.. possibly

At the moment I have Asrock - Z87 Formula OC Full Size MB - 6 x PCI-e Slots 1 x Mini PCI Slot

I have 3 x 280x R9 Toxic OC Saphire and planning to get 3x newer - R9 290x  - Which should boost my KH a little more Now I realized I have 1 more slot I maybe able to use, ITs the 1 x miniPCI I really do not have a single clue how many lanes the gpu takes, this is like a different language to me, how do I find this?

Maybe by telling you what I had you may know Tongue

if you are going to try this, use a powered 1x -> 16x powered cable risor and an external power supply. Otherwise you'll likely burn up your laptop with the potential power draw.

Moving to Puerto Rico...

Thanks for the reply, But its not a laptop its a GPU Rig which I am upgrading slowly, so far I have 3 x R9 280x Tri-X OC TOXIC And I was going to get another 3 x GPU Possibly the R9 290x Toxic OC version.

And then..... I realised there is another Mini PCI slot, which can be adpated to PCI-e 1x and then to x16 Which means i get another GPU - totalling all up 7xGPU rig

Here are my specs:

i3 CPU
4GB Ram
60GB SSD HDD
1200w Silverstone Goldedition Modular PSU - Peak 1300w & Rated at 1405w MAXIMUM<< IF I GET MORE THAN 4 CARDS I DO KNOW I AM GOING TO NEED ANOTHER POWER SUPPLY POSSIBLY 850w
Asrock Z87 Formula OC Motherboard with the following slots:

- 4 x PCI Express x16 slots (PCIE1/PCIE2/PCIE4/PCIE6)
- 2 x PCI Express x1 slots
- 1 x mini-PCI Express slot
- PLX8605 embedded
- Supports AMD Quad CrossFireX™, 4-Way CrossFireX™, 3-Way CrossFireX™ and CrossFireX™
- Supports NVIDIA® Quad SLI™ and SLI™

*mini-PCI Express slot is shared with PCIE5 slot.   <<<<<< I noticed this and I am not sure I understand this, If I have a GPU in PCIE5 with a powered 1-16x riser would that be fine with anoher gpu in the Mini PCI?

^^ This is my main question, I had a reply telling me - "Depends on how many lanes your gpu-card is using" But as you can see I do not understand what they mean by that, I have been trying to look it up and this proved difficult also. I am back at square one I still need to find out if I am able to use my Mini PCI slot if I purchase a powered MiniPCI -> PCIe 1x Powered adapter  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-PCI-E-PCI-express-to-PCI-E-1X-Card-adapter-Riser-Extender-USB-port-/271353807736?pt=AU_CablesConnectors&hash=item3f2df28378&_uhb=1 << Like this And then Getting another Powered 1x -> 16x Extender cable Which will then allow me to plug the GPU in.

Anyone?

Just buy the thing. It's not expensive. Then experiment with the 1x to 16x connection by making a pcb-board yourself if it's not available for sale. And feel like Columbus if you succeed.

Either way: post your results here  Smiley

This is what I was going to do Smiley It seems I may be the first to experiment? THis will enable another 700-850KH in anyones rig... Most people have MiniPCI there but not used right?

I will post my results...

Goal = 7 X GPU Rig Mixed with TOXIC OC Tri-X 280X R9  x 3 & R9 290 x4

Hopefully get 5500-5650 Kh/s , I get 750Khs VERY stable from the r9 280 so I am hoping to get 800-850 from the r9 290

I am so angry that the last few weeks since I built my rig I can only run 2 cards because I am waiting for risers in the mail from Hong Kong, I tried putting 3 cards on the board but they get too hot 100c.. DAM IT! I cant believe that it takes so long to order these riser things, Ive looked at over 20 of Sydneys popular , Biggest , Computer supply shops and not one single shop had those risers for mining! 99% didnt even know what I was talking about! Argh!!!!?

Get this - I am in Sydney Australia I ordered the TINY ADAPTER FROM -www.Add2psu.com for 2 Powersupplies - 5 Days AFTER the risers, this thing came in 5 days From the US, which is most likely further in distance... damm Hong kong post!!!!

Hey bud, how did you go with this?

I've tried getting risers to work with this Mobo but only got 3 going.

The new generation have arrived and they brought their own currency...
