It would be fun to see, especially what thart goverment will turn into, because crypto movement was supposed to be leaderless and decentralized, so they need a decentralized way to bring out decisions...

Is a very strange idea, honestly is the first time I hear about it and it never crossed my mind that anyone would think about it. The sea is a very dangerous place, so I wonder, why would anyone want to have a house in the sea? to have a house right at sea? and seriously even want to risk people's lives with the idea of having houses in the sea? even if it is an island still surrounded by water, which in itself is already something dangerous. I do not see anything good coming from this news

I think it's an interesting concept for sure.

Maybe a good starting point.

With regards to the dangers of the sea, I would imagine that these colonies would be established in fairly calm waters around the Pacific area. Perhaps not too far from shore as well.

I do like that people are thinking of creating colonies or communities that are independent of the current system. I believe it is a step in the right direction.

I think there's an idea like this before that was posted here in forum but I can't recall it. This aims the crypto people who are living under the government that is strict with it.

This what came to my mind, the calmness of the sea is unpredictable. But I think they are considering the phenomena and they have a disaster risk plan.

Absolutely, I totally agree. I think bold projects like these are needed, to show people how much potential blockchain technology has to change the world as we know it.

Perhaps they would have some sort of mining operation set up as well. I mean they could harness kinetic energy from the ocean's waves as well as energy using wind turbines.

i have been following the seastead concept for years. and they are no where near building anything. they are just invstment grabbing to promote a concept which when doing all the research still has many flaws that need to be filled before a single sheet of material is purchased.
alot of the funding has been and will be wasted on their so called "planning phase". (they are still in the same scripted promotion of being not yet at the planning phase because they need funding, a couple years ago)

a few years back i was optmistic until i drilled down into their paper work and action plans and seen the emptiness of the concept. yes they used buzzwords and hopes of utopia and lots of graphic images of paradise. but the reality of a crypto village just did not get well thought out.

they want billions, for something few people can use. even just that. demanding more than $5million per possible "resident" is not a good request.
nor is the fact that to run such a island requires employee's who would take up some of that space. thus thus dilute the amount of "residents" that could/would afford their asks.

i could go on about their lack of research and plan for utilities as that has a impact not just on the lifestyle expected on a island but also the ecology of the area/water they promote to want to stead in. i wont say to much as they will just make some buzzworded reply that its all handled. ill just wait for them to get some hints and do the research and planning and provide solutions to show they are ready. which hey are not. even after a few years of me looking into their concepts

I just don't think that the civilized people on that 300 houses will have a peaceful community, they will sure having a debate on what amount of crypto should be given to them and for that consequence I would not even volunteer myself, I'm sure I will have my own crypto but using it on secluded community having its own government was far beyond my expectation.

though my research was more about their prospect of actually making the village.
when it comes to the currency. i seen it as a commune/cult coin only used by 300 people daily. whos gonna pay billions needed to make the floating village just for (deducting staff) 100 residents/guests

Thanks a stack for your input. Great to see that you have been following this project for some time and that you actually did some deep research into their model.

I guess they seem to be getting away with buzzword marketing and selling the "idea" of an Utopian community, I gobbled it all up and became excited about the concept....   -  Not to a point of where I would have invested in the coin or anything but I just like the idea. Sad to hear now that it looks like it's just going to be another money grabbing ICO that isn't really going to bring anything to the table apart from an idea/concept.

What they do not come up with. Let's see how much this will come true. A lot of things promise to be done or built, but unfortunately so far not much has been done at least from what I know. Or I'm wrong?

As it seems to me that the mass media out of nothing make a sensation, i can believe that in some country there will be a separate zone for crypto-millionaires, but in the creation of floating islands, I refuse to believe. This is good one and would like to visit one day. But one unique thing that caught my attention is the term "government" in that despite the fact that its going to be an all crypto denominated island, the importance of government cannot be undermined which no matter how much we hate this institutions the mere reasons what people by default are not expected to behave in a certain way give credence to why we need government. My fear now is, in an island that wants to have government which means that they have to practice democracy in choosing their leaders, they would have executive to enforce law and order, which might then lead to centralization of power. Would that not even defeat the primary purpose of crypto currency?

Hello, an interesting article, thank you. But it reminds me of the fantastic film Waterworld starring Kevin Michael Costner, I think we will soon come to this plot. Although for many years there is a semi-island in the United Arab Emirates that was built in the sea.

Living out at sea doesn't have to be dangerous, if it's done properly. I would imagine an untethered platform being bashed about in the Atlantic, or in the path of tropical storms would be a no-no, but anchored in a reasonably sheltered sea might not be so bad.

I guess the bigger problem would be the risk from pirates. Unless the islanders are protected by a navy, they could be inviting all sorts of trouble. Bu the problem with asking for protection is that it doesn't come for free.
