Anyone interested in retromining?

Several years ago I implemented SHA-256 on my TI-83. I also implemented AES-128-CFB. I gave up on RSA and DSA because of memory constraints, so I never did create a complete strong-crypto suite for TI-83/z80. With all the interest in bitcoin these days, maybe someone will find my SHA-256 code interesting (or I'll revisit it---although I'd personally find asymmetric crypto or a stronger symmetric block mode more interesting).

If the ~800 bytes/sec from my comments is reliable, the old z80 should do ~7 h/sec, right?

Calculation code:
Code:
; sha256up.z80 by timewave0
; 1twzU46whuMER6hhBPCGmdaLw8atyv9c4
;
; this file constains pure, portable z80 code,
;  no TI-8x ROM calls

; this subroutine updates the sha256 hash
;  in H0 to H7 given a complete block copied
;  to the beginning of WBUF

This is the best thing I've seen all day.  You are probably the only one that would spot the load increment and repeat in my nickname.

You would need two calls per nonce using your SHA-256 function right?  So it might be closer to 3 h/s.  I didn't read close enough to see if you covered that.

What Mhz does your TI run at?  I've got a TRS-80 Model 4 around here somewhere with a 4.77Mhz Z80 in it.  I don't know if I still have assembler disks or anything tho.  getwork is simple enough to implement over RS-232 so getting work to a z80 should be cake.

Glad you enjoyed it.

I figured 800 bytes/sec and the 80 byte block header has to be hashed once, then that 32 byte hash has to be hashed, so a total of 112 bytes. If that's all it had to do, it would make 7.14 h/sec, but it has to change pointers (or do a deep copy) in between and re-do the padding. My figures are for "large" amounts of data to make padding and other overhead less significant, but the padding can be optimized for mining because the message lengths are always fixed sizes.

According to Wikipedia, the original TI-83 I was emulating ran its z80 at 6 MHz. Newer derivatives are capable of up 15 MHz.

I have a 1.77 mhz model one in the basement.  About 1 hash a second probably??
