No, I don't see how this could be beneficial for her. Don't do it.

If you want to name her after a sweet asset, I would suggest Apple. Or Goldie.

Ok, if that's your thing, a middle name that's not really mentioned except in the birth certificate or so sounds a bit better.

I would feel like selling my daughter though.

The Apple/Goldie thing was a joke, btw. Just making sure not to destroy some innocent life with a post, ha ha..

Congrats on your little girl!

I wouldnt do it. Currency of all types stirs a lot of emotion in people, good and bad. I'd say it'd cause a lot more problems for her than it will help her in life. Just look at how many wars and fights have been caused by money.

Being a name it'll have all the negatives without having any positives that'll actually help. "gee are you rich from bitcoins?" "no. my parents had one once." --> then either "and it failed and they lost their money but im stuck with the name" or "and it succeeded but they only had one, so good for him but nothing to do with me".  Im all for bitcoins, but as a name I wouldnt.

if you want to hedge your bets it'll work out for her put the bitcoin in a an off line paper wallet and give it to her on her 18th.

Personally I think it would be detrimental to her and is not a good idea at all.

I have a friend who's mother's name translates literally to "Bring Gold."  Presumably it referred to a hoped for bride price.  She was Chinese, but I forgot what region she was from.

If you're looking for fame, you will get more media coverage if you call her Asshole.

That is a horrible thing to do. Even for the 'good' of bitcoin. Even as a middle name. Shame on you for even thinking that. This will haunt her for life, especially if for some unforsaken reason BTC tanks and the general population moves onto the 'next big crypto' due to demand. This reminds me of the guy who got a "Brian Griffin Tattoo" that said RIP on it... only for Brian to come back in a couple episodes later.

Yeah. Don't.

Would you have been happy if your parents had name you 'Dollar'?

Get a grip man. Giving her bitcoins: yes, cool, go for it. Naming her 'Bitcoin': not so much.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Steve / OP,

Solution 1:
You can change your own name to Bitcoin in stead? :-) !
( Just like "Kim Dotcom" did? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Dotcom )

Solution 2:
Maybe you can tattoo a Bitcoin logo full size on your body?
( Just like this woman: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/01/casino_tattoos_womans_face/ )

Solution 3:
Sell some organs of yourself?

Solution 4:
Offer your body to clients per hour to freely (ab)use any way they like?

Solution 5:
OK, this suggestion is serious:
(the previous ones were meant as jokes)
Get inspired by: http://fiverr.com/categories/fun-bizarre/ and offer something unique for 0,01 BTC

Good luck with generating publicity, it will help all bitcoin owners, I guess.

Regards, Michiel

Don't do it - the media will spin it the wrong way.

Plenty of other ways to help the cause.

Great suggestions, Michiel Smiley

Solution 4: change your own name to your Bitcoin address. So people can say "Well Mr. 1GtRVNSViobQwERuGncLg1axJAtVx2CXNt, where do you want us to wire your money? -oh wait"

You can even include "steve" in your BTC address, see: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygen
