There's rarely an occasion when you see a thread with a few people in it WITHOUT A PRIMEDICE AD. These need to go, or at least ban PrimeDice - it's getting out of control, and spambots are signing up just to take advantage of this deal.

Maybe we should ban all multi-colored sigs as they are distracting.

Why does it really matter? Why wouldn't people have a paid signature - they get paid to post whether they make 50 posts a month or 2000. As long as it's not spam, then it shouldn't be an issue. Turn sigs off if it's such an annoyance to you. And do you have any proof of actual spambots, because I haven't seen any?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=401167Haha, proof of spambots actually partaking in any signature deals. If there was any I'm sure I would've spotted and reported them already. There are plenty of spammers and trolls here with their own signatures or none at all, so please don't label and lump everybody who has a PrimcDice sig as a spammer. The vast majority of Prime Dice participants are not any where near spammers and actually only collect for a hundred posts or so. Yes, there are some users who try game the system, but Stunna wont pay these people if caught, and they should be handled however spammers are dealt with here already, whether they have a signature or not (and paid or otherwise). Same issue as selling accounts. If paid signatures are banned, how do you know if an ad in someone's signature isn't just a recommendation?
I agree. You can't really ban sig adverts without banning them all. People will find a way to get around it. 'Personal Texts' will be sold and then avatars whenever they come back.

I wont if they ban signature ads , but otherwise; yeah, look out Phinny. So you are only spamming the forums because of the paid signature? Because, there is no way you would have something to contribute on every thread you post in. 1) How is there 'no way'? Any evidence behind this or are you just assuming? 2) Can you define 'spam'? It seems anybody with a paid sig or high post count / low activity ratio is now automatically referred to as a spammer or is spamming. I only post where I have something to contribute. I don't even go in the mining or development sections because I have little to no knowledge in those areas (check my stats). I would be an absolute liar if I said I wasn't posting as much because of my signature deal; but again, what does it matter whether I or anybody else makes 50 posts a month or spends every waking minute of every day posting, as long as it's not spam and utter bollocks? It doesn't. If I was spamming I'm sure I would've been banned already, but apparently according to this my posting habits are seemingly ok. If they become a problem I'm sure I'll be warned. Again, punish people who post spam nonsense, not everybody else.

I've been on forums that make it against the rules to promote ANY site you're not directly involved with, due to the spammy nature of affiliate links in signatures. It tends to lead to uneven enforcement at best though, which leads in turn to hurt feelings and sluggish membership.
If all you want to do is cut back on the low-quality posters that are only there for a signature link, it is effective however.

I'd like to post my opinion in here but don't want to be labled a spammer or be mocked by my postcount ratio lol.
Obviously I'm in favour of keeping them, but I agree people who copy and paste replies etc need to be warned. If the rules are enforced stricter then spam shouldn’t be a problem. There are several members in the primedice thread who would be happy to report people to Stunna or the mods for spamming. What are the rules on spamming exactly? Is it a reportable offence? I haven’t reported any posts yet but I would if I get some clarity on this.

Yes, it is a reportable offence. You sure about this? I'd like clarification from a mod, but either way it's hard to define what is and what isn't spam.

Spamming is a reportable (and bannable) offense. It is hard to define what is and isn't spam, but I'm willing to bet a lot of your content is more towards spam. I find it hard to believe that you (or anyone who posts that much) really has that much to contribute to the forums.

I find it hard to believe that you (or anyone who posts that much) really has that much to contribute to the forums. Well I think you need to define what spam is for me, because maybe we have different opinions of what is and what isn't spam, and I don't want to report posts if it's going to mess up my bad report percentage. I'd even say a few hero members continually post spam (or crap) and troll, but they're still here and nobody seems to say anything about it. But again, it seems anybody who has a paid signature or has a high post/activity ratio is singled out as a spammer, often without evidence and based on mere assumption. Personally I don't believe any of my posts are spam, but maybe some disagree, but please don't just assume all sig participants are spamming or don't have much to contribute because I don't believe that to be the case, but maybe I also need to know what your definition or contribute/contributing is also.

When people report spammers, I tend to mark the report as handled (unless I just flat out disagree) even if I don't delete or act on that particular post. I do think it's a good thing to bring those people to our attention, and I appreciate the report for that. Though not all the mods may feel that way, so YMMV.

The forum banned referral links, and removed images from signatures. Spammers have shown the next step is for the signatures to have ALL BBcode markup stripped, nothing needs to be 24 point red.
How bad does it need to get? The answer: as bad as it already is.

Solicited Referal links are fine, people posting just to post their referal links however are not. For example, if I make a thread asking about how cex.io works, and someone is answering questions about it, and then offers me their referal link, thats fine.

Should posting wallet stealing trojans be allowed on the forum? Its free BTC, so yes. Should hiring hitmen be allowed on the forum? Its free BTC, so yes. Should forum users advertise their hands to be cut off for money? Its free BTC, so yes. Should stolen children be sold here for money? Its free BTC, so yes. Proof that logic can be applied to any situation. Your logic doesn't work here. -_- And thus transitively we can infer that neither does yours. Sadly this discussion evolves towards throwing shit at each other. I have a sig, yes, I used to post here for more than 4 months without a sig, then got offered btc for it, so why not take it? I have free beer, nobody gets hurt. I vote against banning sigs not only because I have one but also because you can just limit the font size or turn them off in your profile. As for the spammers just give warnings or ban them. If somone spams for a day and loses the account you can be sure he won't do it again, the pay is so low it's just not worth it.

Why don't we just limit all signatures to one line 12pt black standard font.
Or just eliminate signatures altogether. They seem like pointless spam even when it isn't a paid advertisement.

There's rarely an occasion when you see a thread with a few people in it WITHOUT A PRIMEDICE AD. These need to go, or at least ban PrimeDice - it's getting out of control, and spambots are signing up just to take advantage of this deal.
How can you even be taken seriously in this discussion? You joined the forum on Nov 20, 2013 and have made 2924 posts... making for over 59 posts a day on average. Wow at that rate hilariousandco will have the top post count on the forum within a year. Look out Phin. What I got passed to well that is quite fast Ha-ha look out Phin

Does anyone know if turning sigs off also turn yours off publicly, or can you still have one that others can still see?

"Kitchen, table, get a fork and then pierce the both of your eyes. Simple as that." Thanks for advice, but it's not an option. I want to see signatures, but I don't want to see the purchased crap around them. That's why I'm using proxomitron to filter out formatting from signatures. But it's not a real solution for this problem.

Dont really see why they need banned. If i make posts i can just as easily make a little money from it. If you dont want to see it you block all the signatures. Ofcourse the spammers mentioned earlier in this tread is a different story. As long as you dont copy paste your posts or say nothing usefull at all, its fine for me. But after all i have a primedice sig

I've eliminated those giant annoying signatures from our thread, not sure what I was thinking at the time. I've noticed there is a serious divide between those with paid signatures and those without them and I'd be happy to work towards a fair compromise. While I think the signatures were good in bringing a lot of new users to the forum and convincing lurkers to register, I feel that overall they are now starting to have a negative effect if left unchanged. Ive updated our thread to restrict the next term to users with 50+ activity which should eliminate a strong amount of the spammers. If you have other suggestions please let me know and if the staff of bitcointalk would like me to discontinue this I'd be more than willing to comply. Just banning PD signatures per Whisker's suggestion wouldn't really do anything except bring in loads more threads, the only reason why there are few competitors is because our rates are very high. Thanks

I was going to suggest maybe making two pay/posting brackets. One for newbs or newcomers to the deal and one for existing users. You could have maybe newbs/newcomers complete two months before they can move onto the next 'trusted' bracket, but limiting it to 50 activity is probably much better . Anyway, thanks for your compromises, and I'm sure there will be a way to keep the sig deals without having to ban them outright.

...Since to do have a paid signature, I will say yes lol. I think it is a good idea, and it is a signature so there should be much regulation over what is in it. If someone wants to click on it, then do it, if not, then don't.
The only possible regulation I can see is maybe the size of it. Obviously large signatures that take up a lot space is distracting to the thread.

Thanks Thanks! I think this thread is pretty much over that you've resolved this, also hilariousandco: I took your advice. ;P Your signature hurts my eyes as I find the font difficult to read, please change it . I think there's always compromises and middle ground to be found with things like this as opposed to outright bans. Now, get reporting spammers and bots . Oh, and Whiskers I think you need to update you FAQ to accommodate these questions. Been a few threads recently .
