I have a question about the coin. What happens after the 3 years? How will miners be paid?
I may be wrong about this, but isn't that what transaction fees are for? So when there are no blocks left to mine, when transactions are made the transaction fee would go towards creating new blocks. The total amount of coins would not change, but would change hands via the process of transaction fees for transferring coins to other wallet addresses. Someone more technical may need to correct me on that though, as this is what I assume happens.

Transaction fees, theres already a fee if you send a small amount of coin, this protects the network from 'dust' (small transactions spammed purposely to bloat the blockchain). You can voluntarily pay a fee, though there is scope to make the small transaction fee non optional, fees from transactions go into blocks and get mined. We have already seen blocks being mined that have fee payments incorporated into them . So further down the line we would force TX fees of some amount (0.001 or somthing), miners keep mining to support the network and get paid in TX fees, this is how all scrypt/sha256 cryptos are designed to work. As the networks quite small and not many transfers will be happening at the moment it is unlikely you will see blocks bigger than the standard 77, but when i do another giveaway thread and start sending lots of transactions if you keep an eye out you'll see some blocks with fractional amounts tacked on

Tells me it's damaged and doesn't work :/
Could you please post a screenshot of the exact error you are getting? A quick note - the wallet should work on Lion or greater, so if you're running OSX earlier than 10.7 it won't work. The only file should be the .zip right? Which unzips into just the Klondike-qt application?

Ah - ok, generally that error is caused by gatekeeper blocking unsigned applications or applications distributed outside of the Mac App store. One of these two things should work. 1) You can try to open it by right clicking on Klondikecoin-Qt.app and selecting "Open" instead of double clicking - this should then present you with a dialog to allow the app to open or not or 2) Open Gatekeeper settings located in "System Preferences > Security & Privacy" and Set "Allow applications downloaded from:" to "Anywhere" and confirm by pressing "Allow From Anywhere" Give that a try.

Well now it asks me if I want to open it, but when I do, it doesn't do anything. It's like as if it just crashes on startup.

Am looking at CatCoin and thinking it has roughly the same total supply... Wondering if their valuation could be comparable.

That's exactly what I thought. However, Catcoin behaved a little differently, and although that made it more profitable to begin with, the coin just couldn't keep up with the momentum. Once the coin lost some value after getting dumped by the early miners, the hashrate started dropping, and the retarget time was so long that Catcoin ended up in a sort of spiral; miners left because of slow block times and lower prices, and this just became a vicious cycle. Then the coin was forked to correct this, but then the retarget time made the difficulty swing, so miners are just jumping in when it's low, then leaving after the retarget. Klondike is more like the new Catcoin, but Klondike's retargets are 4 times slower. I'm not sure if this will prevent difficulty swings, as the difficulty will reflect market value. but provided enough people hold Klondike hopefully it won't end up in the same situation like Catcoin. It can learn from its mistakes though. Ok, yes, people want this coin on the exchanges. That's good, but it needs more distribution among miners. For that we need giveaways and further interest before we even consider getting on an exchange. We should also stay off of multipools and coinwarz as long as possible. They will make the price and difficulty extremely unstable. It's exactly what's happening with Catcoin now. More promotion, more giveaways, more hashpower on the network. Stay off of coinwarz, multipools and the like as long as possible. We don't want the market controlled by pumpers and dumpers, and by promoting the coin we'll increase the amount of small stake holders. This coin is an easy sell. The only way it's going to increase in value after hitting exchanges is by promoting it now. It's an easy sell. 20 million coins? The difficulty level is still wonderfully low.
