You may (and probably will) face a huge heating problem.

AFAIK ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS has the most PCI-e 16x slots, there are 7. And you could probably fit 4x280, but that's a bad idea anyway.

You could be the amount of heat out of 4 cards that will be side by side is going to kill your equipment even if you use a small shunt to try and space them alittle, go with risers and an open frame. Even if you think you might save alittle money you really wont once you have to deal with RMAs for cards with dead VRMs/GPUs/Motherboards from all the heat.
(I have 4 cards in a milk crate with risers and still have trouble moving all the heat)

The heat will burnout your cards in no time. If you want to do something like this then get R9 290x cards. These will be reference cards so you can buy water blocks for them. Then liquid cool the whole rig. Sure, it will cost you 2x as much but certainly will be quiet and cool.

Thanks for your answers.

What is a fair price for a powered riser?

There is no such thing as a fair price.

Just supply/demand.

Gigabyte 990FXA rev.4.0. And yes you'll need risers because of heat.

And get an 8320 cpu for CPU-only coins. Good CPU, mine has paid itself already in 2 weeks.
