Yes. scrypt does not use much cpu at all.

Although little CPU is used it can still make using the PC cumbersome but it seems to be motherboard and card specific. I have one that mines scrypt but I have to keep the intensity of the primary video card down to 13 to stop stuttering occurring when moving a window about. Another that has no problem until the I gets to 18.

not much cpu is used, for example i use my fx6300 mine on 4 cores while leaving 2 cores for the system and cgminer to run
anything above 15 on the intensity will cause a bit of jitter

Sempron 145 with 5x 280x cards, an identical rig with 5x 290 cards, and CPU on both is ~15-20%. I thought it'd be lower than that, but doesn't seem to slow the actual hashing down too much. I'm guessing cuz it's a slow-ass single core?

Edit: Each rig has a single 8GB stick in it.

I've 2 x R9 280x on a i5 and 8gb ram, cpu usage only 5 -10%, memory usage is `20%

For scrypt mining cpu is actually not used much but ram is important,  must be 4+ or 4 Gb.

Although CPU is idle but you still can't use your computer freely unless you stop 1 of your graphic card...
