It seems like that either one of these devices is the best choice for a none preorder, with decent hashing power, but the big question which one is better?

Avalons: (2.4BTC or 2100$)
1000W PSU to run 2 boards
Loud enough to be a pain
44 lb (20 kg) case

Antminer: (2.6BTC)
Destroy a PSU power cord

Has anyone heard any other bad things about either one of these devices? Lets start a healthy debate.

Antminer has less power consumption so many people seem to prefer antminer.
However if you really think about the life expectancy of miners,
it is only about 6months not because of the product quality but due to the difficulty raise.

If you calculate the actual electricity cost difference for the 6months, it is not that much than you think
so this brings to the point that important thing is the the price difference.
It is of course depending on the electricity cost of your location.

The above example price of Avalon at 2.4Btc and antminer at 2.6btc, it's 0.2 price difference and the
electricity cost difference for 6months would exceeds 0.2 btc at current rate so i vote for antminer.
But the avalon price is going down and there're some sellers at 2.1~2.2btc eventhough i'm not sure
if the resellers are legit. If the price difference is more than 0.4~5 then i would choose avalon.

You also need to consider the delivery time on both products and there're more avalon resellers so you would have better chance to purchase avalon from existing stock for fast delivery. In this case,
it may be better to purchase avalon in stock and start mining faster.
Avalon seems easier to fix by just replacing parts but don't count on me on this because i only run several avalons and haven't received my antminer order yet.

In overall, both products are good choice now until tera hash miners launch in the market at decent price i think.

Antminer: (2.6BTC)
Destroy a PSU power cord

Newer models have 6-pin PCIe connectors, negating the need to roll your own cable.

Power consumption is half of the Avalon product.

Well the difference in the price is a something to look at as well, but avalons can be bought through wire transfer or paypal which for a guy like me that doesn't have a whole BTC yet, it makes it a little more inviting. But yes, I can agree the massive difference is power consumption is something to look at. These products are all just stepping stones until the better rigs come out.

The devices shipping now will always be stepping stones. Most people would need to shut down their antminers around july (unless BTC price goes up big time). Maybe july/aug for jupiter...

These hashfast, new knc, etc r highly unlikely to survive well into 2015...

There are several things to consider.

1. power use

2. hashing power

3. price

So you need to do the full sum.

BTC mined over useful life - cost of purchase - power use.

I have been running several of both of these types of boxes.

Antminer draws around 360W out of the wall and Avalon draws around 870W out of the wall.

Avalon runs at a steady 25GH/s faster than an Antminer

so over 3 months, which is probably the useful life of these machines I get the following working on BTC@900 USD

Antminer

Hardware break even   56 days
Net profit first time frame   1482.40 USD

Coins per 24h at these conditions   0.0517 BTC
Power cost per 24h   1.26 USD
Revenue per day   46.54 USD
Less power costs   45.28 USD
System efficiency   525.71 MH/s/W
Mining Factor 100 at the end of the time frame   0.02 USD/24h@100MHash/s
Average Mining Factor 100   0.02 USD/24h@100MHash/s
Power cost per time frame   115.05 USD
Revenue per time frame   3997.46 USD
Less power costs   3882.40 USD

Avalon

Hardware break even   44 days
Net profit first time frame   2116.41 USD

Coins per 24h at these conditions   0.0582 BTC
Power cost per 24h   3.07 USD
Revenue per day   52.36 USD
Less power costs   49.28 USD
System efficiency   242.39 MH/s/W
Mining Factor 100 at the end of the time frame   0.02 USD/24h@100MHash/s
Average Mining Factor 100   0.02 USD/24h@100MHash/s
Power cost per time frame   280.73 USD
Revenue per time frame   4497.14 USD
Less power costs   4216.41 USD

of course trying to predict the future is hard because of difficulty and prices but at present the maths suggests that Avalon is a better investment than Antminer

My mining expreience agrees

AntMiner takes Avalon all day everyday.
I am thinking of grabbing 10 of them.   Cool
