We are aware of the difficulty. When launching the coin we chose a long term strategy with difficulty and blocks. Coins with fast difficulty adjustments are exploited by profit-switching pools which is something we did not want. So we chose to go with difficulty adjustments every 2016 blocks and a target period of 2 weeks. And block times of 600 seconds.

The first 14,000 blocks were solved in 2 days. This is much much faster than expected. Right now there are over 400,000 coins in existence. Also much more than we thought for the first few days.

As we know the difficulty is currently 16.  Right now we are averaging about 3-4 blocks an hour, below are target of 6. However because the first blocks were solved so quickly, we do not want a difficulty adjustment for another week or so. Otherwise difficulty will rise again which would be very bad.

So as I mentioned, we are launching a promotion to slightly boost our mining speed. With the 1pxl block bonus paid to the finder, this will make mining much more profitable.

And by our calculations, 100 PXL is going for about 0.01 btc on the trading thread. So even at this difficulty mining is still profitable.

And what exactly was the use of RPC/CAT? Smiley And what's the use for 99% of these alt coins?

This coin has a very good idea and use already. Wait till it hits an exchange... if the price settles higher watch how everyone will jump back on it Wink

devs, how hard would it be to implement the nethashrate function for this so we can see the total network's hashrate?

BTC has had forks. Diamond has 1min block times and difficulty adjustments every block and has forked as well (And PalmDetroit fixed it). They happen and if so we will deal with them.

Obviously we have differing opinions but i think we can both agree every approach has it's pros and cons.  We chose what we thought was best for our coin and our concept.

Today we will be launching a mining promotion. On both the pxlcoin.com pool and bitember's pool (and possibly minar), we will be implementing a 1pxl reward to each block finder. The pool software (MPOS) will pay this automatically so you don't have to do anything special - just mine.

We will be doing this for 1,000 blocks and maybe more if it goes well.

We will implement this first on bitember's pool. I will not announce exactly when we start (it will be in the next few hours) but will announce after a good chunk of blocks bonuses have been paid.

So start mining now to be sure you are eligible once the reward kicks in!

And just to be transparent - we are using proceeds from the sales of pixel space on pxlcoin.com. This is the first time any PXL coins have been "spent" in any way and we are recycling them back to our miners.

Also I know this favors miners with higher hashrates. I will be starting another thread announcing the promotion and if you post your username on either pool there and a PXL address, we will randomly be sending miners some coin who we see mining during the promotion.

Happy Mining!

Just wanted to let everyone know this will be starting very shortly.  First it will start on Bitemember's pool - http://pxl.bitember.com/ - then will be added to pool.pxlcoin.com shortly after. Once blocks start paying bonuses I will be making another thread.  Happy mining!

It looks like it will take 2 days to get through diff 16.

Cat was going to take months to recalc when everyone left.

PXL is actually backed by something of value. The right to ad space it represents. not to mention the other ways we will be able to spend it that the devs are coming up with.  What other coin has anything remotely similar to this? The more we promote and the more links to the PXL site get posted around the better for all of us!
The milliondollar page had $1 pixels right off the bat and that was an internet epoch ago. The community around here should be able to have this page full in no time and traffic recycling through the site itself through the ads.

The people who mine through thick and thin should end up seeing a coin value of .001-.006btc each once on cryptsy!

Who else is mining PXL with me?!

Will the bonuses be added to minar?

I will have another try...although last time I did I only managed to mine a little over 1PXL...so if I find a block we can firmly place it in the miracle category :-)

We may add Minar, I need to talk to him. It will also depend on factors such as the network hashrate and how many blocks we are averaging per day.

Anyway the promotion is live now on pxl.bitember.com! Start mining!
