Specification is for 2016 blocks.  That said, it wasn't expected for 500mhash to come to bear on PXL right away and thought it would be a much smaller and niche type of launch compared to the usual coin release (since this is mainly for the website and backed by actual pixels) so really more pixels were made sooner and now less pixels are being created with current difficulty, so maybe this can be tweaked going forward to respond better to faster moving markets. (right now the slower supply is offsetting the fast release initially)

The blocks are taking forever to come though. I am still getting payouts from pxl.minar.cc even after more than a day of not mining there.

So it sounds like it's normal! at least until some hash comes back or the diff drops.

You're going to need to do a hard fork if you want to make this coin usable again.  Block times are averaging 30 minutes each, and it's going to take 40+ days at the current hash rate to make it to the retarget.  You need to make the difficulty retarget much more quickly (e.g. with a 36-block rolling average).  Also, you should reduce the confirmation time of newly mined blocks.

The default settings from the Litecoin code are really terrible for launching a new altcoin (2016-block retarget and minimum starting difficulty) .  You end up with a huge supply of coins from the launch period (instamining) which deflates the value of the coins.  Then when the difficulty finally catches up with the hash rate, the hashers leave because it is not profitable.  And finally you get stuck at a high difficulty with long block times and a very long time until retarget.

We are considering all our options. Right now we are in difficulty hell but the settings we chose are what we think is best for the long term - we are talking years not days. Once things "level out" mining difficulty will become more stable.

However we completely understand the prospect that with the difficulty so high we may have a hard time getting through the blocks to the next change.

We are "launching" in china very soon so hopefully that will attract some hashes. Getting on an exchange with a favorable price may also attract miners. So we are hopefull things will turn around soon. But if they don't, we will do whatever we have to do to "fix the problem".

Right now PXL is still very cheap and for just a few bucks someone could advertise on our site by mining or purchasing PXL. You can't get that kind of advertising at such a low rate anywhere online, or anywhere for that matter.

Put up your favorite coins image and link to it's homepage, or your favorite faucet or gambling site.  Talk to those websites about maybe advertising for them for services or commission! The more people fill up the page now and the 100 PXL you give up now will only increase the worth of the coin long term. And you can network and possible make some small revenue off your tiny investment. A 10X10 chunk will definitely draw clicks especially now, not to mention the double spot you get!

So true, even a 5x5 block gets you traffic to your referral links... and well worth the price buying or mining them atm. My two little 5x5s have done quite well so far. And they are there for life. even a 5x5 (one block) shows up nicely and just add a link to any referral site/business. (and I guess they also will show up on the China version of the site)  Easy.
