<Asking for a little latitude from the mods, for this thread has now clearly turned into a project development.>

Now that would be something. Bitcoin is bound to creep into this year's Superbowl in some form. If not official then I'm sure that there will be some guerrilla marketing going down.

how much does it cost for  30 sec commercials during the superbowl now?   It has to be several million right?   If everyone chipped in just a little, I'm sure a commercial could be put together...

bitcoin is currency much like the dollar or euro. i have never seen a TV advert that only advertises a currency. the closest i have seen are payment gateways such as visa/ western union / paypal.

so if there were going to be a bitcoin related advert, it would be on a service such as
bitpay
coinbase
multibit
armoury
blockchain.info
or even bitcoin foundation/bitcoin-qt

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

My understanding is that these commercials get produced and approved many months in advance, so I doubt Overstock would mention Bitcoin since they just started accepting it a few days ago. But hopefully I'm wrong!

Anything is doable if you have the money. That would be a great way to start 2014 with a Bitcoin super bowl commercial. Somene should start a fund to make this happen.

Let's get a professional advertising firm too...not some moron with a billboard + QR code and nothign else.

Waste of money, in my opinion. But, if someone has plenty of money to waste and wants to this, I won't complain. It would be better to just buy 5 million dollars worth of bitcoin and then give away 100 dollars worth in paper wallets to 50,000 people.

How much would it cost for a few seconds advert? Maybe just an ominous image of the Bitcoin logo? Maybe include a QR code with a million bucks in it so the first person to scan it gets the coins haha. That would get people talking, like, wtf was that?

Agreed.  Or half a million people at $10 each.  Just make sure they know to download a lightweight client not QT or we will have half a million sad people.

Okay, what are the chances of somebody holding up a Bitcoin sign in the crowd caught on National TV a la...

This is what we should be working on: Create sign; Bring sign to the game; Buy tickets from a scalper if not able to obtain elsewhere; Go to seat; Wave sign for four hours. Result: Bitcoin seen at Super Bowl on TV during the game. Bonus points awarded if sign waver is donning a pink tutu.

Idea for the sign:

QR-Code w/Bitcoin logo, and "I bet 1 BTC for X to win!" (QR-Code links to actual bet)

Fuck it! Two signs, one on each side of the stadium, depicting a 1 BTC bet for opposite teams with two different QR-Codes.

Ideally, an actual husband and wife team who truly like their team to win and are betting against each other. We could recruit such a couple that are already planning on attending, paying their already outlayed expenses plus, to simply wave the signs.

If someone widely trusted wants to generate a vanity for each team, I'll help with the bet accounting for payouts.

https://bitcoinvanity.appspot.com/ will get all below for free, if you want to do split-key rather than generating by your lonesome.

I was thinking something like this too. Why propose pay millions for a short ad when guerrilla marketing can be done for free!

I've never been to the Super Bowl but if somebody managed to get in with a sign (and optional pink tu tu) then I am sure that it would be more than worth their while.

No idea on the legality, so sites may be tricky. I'd just be putting up a public Google Docs spreadsheet with address, bet amount, team columns, then input whatever formula is appropriate to distribute the winnings proportionally.

I like your idea, but was leaning toward some reputable (NOT dissing you, TBZ) Bitcoin related entity receiving juice if all goes to plan. BitPay comes to mind.

That said, I'm all for the bet idea (unless something better is offered up), but not linking to a Bitcoin betting site due to the stigmatism attached to such, mainly due to Bitcoin doesn't need any more bad press.

Let's continue to kick this around some more, TBZ, and thanks kindly for your valuable inputs.

Juice? BitPay?

Lol this reminds me of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid, always with the questions.

By juice he means the collective BTC that people commit in bets.

I'm not too familiar with BitPay so can't really comment on how that mechanism works.

Actually, what I mean by 'juice' is the relatively inexpensive expose an entity would receive if such an event goes quasi-viral. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=juice

My understanding is that these commercials get produced and approved many months in advance, so I doubt Overstock would mention Bitcoin since they just started accepting it a few days ago. But hopefully I'm wrong!

This is true with most large companies, commercials are produced (actually multiple) then tested with focus groups to identify the best response. These are normally completed by October/November time-frame, reviewed in the Month of December. However, anyone can skip the test market piece, try to wait for the last day possible (like January 6th) and submit them to the network. So it is conceivable someone could of created one in late December, did a few day focus group and submitted in early January.

I've watched half of two Super Bowls think. The half time show is way too long though, I end up falling asleep.

This year I'll keep a keen eye out for Bitcoin banners Wink

http://www.vabtc.com/super-bowl-charity-drive/

I put this together tonight to raise money for Sean's Outpost, and, of course, as a shameless plug for my consulting biz site I'm bootstrapping.

Please spread the link or use those QR codes in a similar fashion to what 1HiMom did if you lucky enough to be going to the Super Bowl.

The "Bronco18" was completely random.. I tried to make a "Hawks25" but it was taking waaay too long Smiley

The banner is just about complete, going through a couple minor tweaks now, and it's AWESOME!

Currently seeking a Bitcoiner that's planning on attending the Super Bowl.

OVERSTOCK

Snoop, lounging in his plush all-white abode, fields requests from his family in this spot promoting Overstock's Snoopermarket. His track "The Good Good" adds an easy, jaunty feel to the scene.

Anybody have any bets on whether or not Bitcoin will be mentioned at least once in an ad during the 2014 Super Bowl?

~TMIBTCITW

Now that would be something. Bitcoin is bound to creep into this year's Superbowl in some form. If not official then I'm sure that there will be some guerrilla marketing going down.

I saw an Overstock commercial today that had Bitcoin accepted here (or something similar, can't remember) at the end. It wasn't very big, but it was definitely noticeable. Can't find the image/video online though...

Edit: Now I find it...

Nice find, bud!

Just realized that the Google tiny URL on the banner design is case sensitive. It should be: http://goo.gl/QyGh8p

I just figured out why Richard Sherman's shopping site doesn't have Bitcoin anywhere on it's pages: http://store.richardsherman25.com/

It's because you have to go through the checkout process first: https://checkout.shopify.com/carts/2592151/4a8fcfd85b0c205fdfb42f2047f4ad68

Ergo, any professional sports entity that used Shopify to build their eCommerce store automatically accepts bitcoins as of November 27, 2013. Richard Sherman just happened to be the first one as a Bitcoiner to announce, even though some other sports notable could be using Shopify longer than he. Genius!

Our new Bitcoin integration is available through BitPay and can be used alongside other payment services, like Shopify Payments and PayPal.

Ergo II: You want to purchase official Seattle Seahawks merchandise, head on over to one of the hundreds of shops hawking (pun intended, for I almost used selling) such that use Shopify for their eCommerce solution, like http://gamedaytreasures.com/collections/seattle-seahawks-display-cases.

I'm in the process of editing in the correct image below on various posts due to the tiny URL not working properly because it's case sensitive.

I think that'd be awesome if they could get an ad for the Super Bowl. But think of the costs! It's so much for such a small amount of time but with that many people watching, it will be HUGE. I think they should go for it(if they still can), it's a gamble but will really get the name out there!   Smiley

How about one of those clever signs that says FOX (it's on FOX this year, right?) but the letters are part of some bitcoin message?

Of course, something that makes any sort of sense.

This has been beat to the ground since prior to last year's Super Bowl, hence going the route I'm taking via guerilla marketing.

I haven't forgotten about the FOX condition, and it WILL be incorporated into the physical banner alongside the image above (a couple posts).

Meanwhile, I just tweeted Richard Sherman the following: https://twitter.com/Bitcoin100/status/426828654870421504

Not so much seeking his approval, but to get his fan base excited about the prospects, with possibly bringing further awareness to Bitcoin.

Important update: I will have the banner produced locally, thus now only need a person who's planning on attending the Super Bowl to wave the damn thing like they have a hoard of locusts in their underwear. Surely, one of the 81K seats is going to be occupied by at least one Bitcoiner. Which one of you guys or gals is it?
