I don't get this. All of the sudden, the reasons for having a newbie section are invalid? You can buy your way out of a ban? Very odd behavior.

hmmmmm.... not a fan of these changes. Bans should stay, you got caught doing something wrong like scamming, chances are your arent going to change, and we dont need people like that hurting this forum and BTC.
Plus the newbie section was a good place for all the crap. Who is really put out by the 4hour wait on posting else where??
We should go back.

Now people are encouraged to make more profiles. Just look at the currency thread. I think that 1 and the same person (newbie) has multiple accounts to promote MTC in a spamming and deceitful way.

Yes opening the newbie section for newbies to ask those questions would be a good idea imo.

Just rename it into Beginners & Help or something similar, to get lost of the Newbie Prison impression.

All previous versions of currency will no longer be supported as of this update

Could we also have restrictions on old accounts which haven't been used for a very long time and have suddenly started to post again? It could reduce the amount of spam and also restrict the act of selling/buying forum accounts.
Edit: It seems removing the newbie section has decreased a lot of spam and hasn't had any negative effects to the forum yet.

Finally we won't be seeing "newbie jail" threads any more! I hope this is going to go well and not fall of it's face.

Although it would leave me out, many boards I have been on also limit what boards you can post in, but not in a "jail" type scenario as it was here.
For example,
reply-only, no new threads - newbie post new threads - must be Jr. Member (except for buy/sell boards, reply-only) anything transactional - must be Member (post in buy/sell boards) Exclusive boards - must be above Member etc.

The newbies section was a great way to be introduced to the site.
A bad move altering it!

Perhaps changes in the rules should only be effective for new members - don't penalise older members being removing them from a higher member group

Ah, newbie again? You can't just setback old members. In my opinion newbie jail was a good thing. Newbies could ask often very good and sometimes very stupid questions, and were encouraged to investigate before posting onto the other sections. I also recommend to keep the newbie section. Curious to see how things go.

This is Madness I tell you! Madness! Already they are cluttering up the other areas with their oh so important Newbie questions and posts. We need a filter at least.

the instructions said I should be able to post in the newbie forum and then browse for 4 hours to get wider access.
What instructions? When I registered there was a page of text explaining where new members could post etc. The text was in a number of languages. I can't definitely remember if it was before or after my account had been created.

It was there before, just most people don't read when they're signing up and skip it eager to complete the process and begin posting.
