Does it even have the 2 required PCI-e connectors, an 8 pin and a 6 pin? Does it have 30A on the 12V rail?

If it doesn't and you want to use that PSU, get the Gigabyte R9-270 OC card and a PCI-e molex adapter. Decent 470+ Kh/s

A single 280x will require ~230-270W. A typical idle system will be ~100W. That's only about 370W while mining. That's 60W of headroom. Your CPU ramps up, HDD spins up, or you have a lot of case fans, and there goes that 60W.

IIRC, AMD recommends a 500W or higher. I believe this is because some PSUs smaller than 500W may be a dual rail, which may not have enough amps to power the card. The CX430 should have enough amps, so I think you'll be fine.

What is the worst case scenario? Ex: it will freeze or not work well.. or it may kill the card?

It should be enough for 1 card (though you might be pushing the PSU to its max depending on your settings) and worse case scenario, the PSU will shut itself down, but that's it, not harm will be done to the card.

CX430 = $40.

280x get to 300w? What card are you running that gets to 300w? As I said, mine started at 270w, and after undervolting, dropped down to 230w per GPU.

As crazy noted what the hell are you clocking.  I have a 280x undervolted to 1.049v getting 715KH/s on a I3-2100 and the whole system is only pulling 262w - and this is with an ambient of 85f.

XFX R9 280x's at stock volts / clocks because mine came locked.

Undervolting is another matter.  I did not assume the OP would be doing this.

However, to recommend a card that must be undervolted to maintain a safe load on the PSU is reckless.
