It's a dangerous habit, but it's a habit non the less so if you can't avoid it, it's better to try to control it. A good way is to put yourself limits. For example time limit if you play active games like Poker,BJ,slots etc etc. You can say 1 hour for example and then you go home,or 2 hours or just anything that you can stick to without crossing the line. Other good strategy is to put yourself profit/losses limit. For example tell yourself : "I start with $100. I either make them $200 and leave or make them $0 and leave". Don't get too greedy because in the end "the house always wins" and don't get too desperate and risk more and more money. Tell yourself "tomorrow is a different day. Things will be better. Don't lose too much today.". It is better to avoid that gambling loophole in general, but if you are stuck in it and don't plan on leaving - then learn to control yourself as much as possible and avoid tilting at all costs.

One of my friends lost a considerable amount at the casino playing Black Jack. The next week, he got an insurance going to his hands, and guess what: he also lost that.
True story unfortunately.

Whoah that's a little bit too careless for your friend it seems. It's unfortunate that no one talked him out of it. There are a lot of things more important than gambling and your friend found that out too late. I know a lot of people who actually made the same mistakes because of being too hooked at that's just the start of it.

I used to do cutting classes when I was in my high school days just to play cards outside near to our school , I just stopped gambling when my teacher told my mother what are the crazy things I've done in school ,my mom was so angry with me because she thought that I doing good to my class specially that I am a girl but I already kearned my lesson.
I remember the old times when I’m also addict with computer games and other card game here in my place, I also do cutting classes before but I think that is where I learned how to gamble can’t say its addiction but I think its more on pleasure. Well, I do gamble buy never found myself an addict on that because I’ve done it occasionally. You should learn to control yourself and prevent from being addict in gambling because your life is in risk if you continue to become greedy.
That obviously is not even something to worry about except for the fact that it did affected your studies in a way but we all know that most kids love to play anyway than read their books. However, in this case with gambling addiction, it is a whole lot more since it is going to be affecting you negatively and coming out of it is usually a very serious one. I have never been an addict either but I have heard of several storied that did not end well or really took some serious pain and work getting out of.

All I remember I was in college and suddenly we tuned into a FIFA match, and we harmlessly put a bet of 10$ I have absolutely zero idea when those bets turned to 1000 and once mad bet of 10000 (I had zero funds was deep down in gambling debt decided to take a risk call and it paid off). I do occasionally gamble but now I'm able to control it, once you learn the fear of loosing your life is when you suddenly are able to control yourself.
the story is pretty good indeed if we trace the gamblers started out of curiosity and dabbled when there is an incident like this when he got the gamble gain then he will try it again and continue until such that he eventually became an addict for the benefit large enough.
In my community a person lost his house after losing all the money. The problem was that the house was not his alone. His brothers and sisters also owned the house. The gang came to his house and told his brother to leave the house. His brother went to their father and told him that this house is not owned only by my brother. Please leave us. Gang father ordered to put the loser to death.
Oh.. this is not a new thing. One of my neighbor started from losing his car until he got to the point of using his house to get a loan as a collateral all because he wanted to use it to gamble and when he was asked why he would go that length, he said he needed to recover all he has lost.

I am not sure if this is what a lot of addict usually has in mind when getting addicted but to me, this is just some flimsy excuse. He was actually taken to a rehabilitation center anyway with the help of his family which I want to believe he is doing well now, but it was a very tough one for his family as they got affected badly and even got to the point of him rendering them penury except that the wife's family helped out.

Just curious to read some addict or former addict stories and probably some of us like me will be glad to see how things actually did roll in for them during this period and I believe some other persons tending towards that path can also learn from it. Also, if you have a friend or relative you can speak for, it would be appreciated.

Personally, this is what I would like to know though.

1. How did you find yourself ending up to become an addict? What instigated it to the point that you just found yourself not being able to control the impulse any longer? What was the feeling like and during those period of being an addict, did you know and were you willing to pop out of it?

2. What were the steps you took or the steps you are taking to get out from it, and on the scale of 1 to 10, how can you rate how you are doing now?

3. For those who are out of it, do you still gamble or still wish you could? In the case where you are still gambling, how do you want to make sure what happened initially does not end up repeating itself.

4. Any other thing you feel you can add is welcome.

There's a lot of gambling addiction stories, which really it's  not good to be an addict in gambling. Some are becoming worst and others become a broken  family.lts really hard to be an addict gambler so it's important to have a discipline if you are gambling. You have to control yourself and think about your family.

It's really hard to come out from things that you already been doing for quite some time, being addicted to gambling is a real problem, keep doing it from your daily life and always risking your hard earned money,  I can say that I also have my own versions of a story, once I also engaged too much with dice and sports betting, after losing a huge amount of alts from a exchange who also have dice inside of it, realizing the fact that engaging too much really affecting me and the money that I spent almost can feed my family for a month it came to my conclusion that moving away is hard but willingness is much stronger if you will take it seriously.

Hmm. Once you understand there is a great chance of losing, the more you will be able to control the decisions you make. Nice one, even though I did a bit of rephrasing. The thing is a lot of people usually do not see the fact that relying too much on the outcome of gambling being positive is actually a very huge problem on its own and that can mar the person completely.

So it is better not to get too overwhelmed with winnings or emotional about losing and as long as you know it is not something you should be too attached to, you will know how to manage yourself.
I have many gambling addiction stories. I want one of them with you people. My neighbor was used to play ludo without any bet but gradually he turned to gambling and started betting over the game. Now he is a regular gambler. He is also government employee and now engaged.

Some days go they were gambling in a house, because gambling is not allowed in my country and there are no casinos here, he was arrested by the police and too him in jail and also took all the money on the table.

Yeah and the reason is that a gambler has no respect in society and all the people hate him even his family do not like a him. Controlling for a regular and addicted gambler is very hard but it is possible to stop gambling gradually. Strong determination is needed to quit gambling addiction. It is hard but not impossible. If a gambler thinks of his future he can quit gambling.

That is why having the confidence while betting can be fatal most of the times but he lost his affordable money I think,we need to only gamble with our spendable money not the money which is needed for our daily life routine so guys understand that gambling is for fun not as business.

When we get a bad result we must stop, but I'm sure it's a very difficult thing to do. if you can control the conditions and situations then you are a great person. Few people can do that because addiction is a very hard thing to leave behind. It is worth noting that gambling game is a bad moment and should never be done. I am sure that many people are disappointed after they try to play gambling for the first time. They enter the gates of destruction in their lives when cheap gambling comes inside.
Bad results actually start from expecting very good results which is obvious that a lot of people fall into such trap because they expected so much from gambling.

Is it not obvious that even in the gambling discussion thread and what we have seen with some topics, a lot of people assume they are gambling with a huge possibility of making a lot of money and then forget they are not investing but playing game and before they started realizing, it would have been too late for them?

A friend from work has a gambling problem and he banned himself from the Brick n Mortar casinos. The security guards at the entrance will be informed from the CCTV operators when he arrives at the entrance and then they will deny him entrance.

He lost almost everything, including his wife and kids and this was the turning point for him. He told me that he realized that he had a problem, when he took the food budget to go gambling and his wife and kids had no money for food. They left and he had to pay for a expensive divorce and he has to pay Alimony or he will go to jail.

He has stopped completely and is working on resolving the broken bridges with his ex-wife and kids.  Sad
Really nice way to go about it for someone who is really ready to do so anyway. Banning oneself from casinos is actually one easy way to go about it but a very tough decision to make at the same time. However, this was the same thing that happened to a cousin of mine as well. The thing is after losing most times, there will always be this sober state for most of the gamblers, and this is the best time to always make some concrete decisions to be able to get out of it and decisions like this is one of them.

Whatever it is, you would be getting nothing at the end. What the worst story it is if this man have lost all what he has. Nothing to see at the end of story. He has lost his kids and wife too. And I suppose there is nothing detrimental than losing your family members. Money has no value in my opinion if compared with family members and relations. So better is to live without gambling.

Well i never got addicted in gambling because i can control myself from spending a lot money. I only gamble if my friends or family only ask me to join with them in the casino. My friends are the ones who became addicted in gambling because they consider gambling as a source of income which it is bad thing to do.

Damn looks like you are the only gambler on this forum who is addicted to gambling but still somehow is able to generate huge amounts of profits. Looks like you should have some control over yourself as the more you gamble there is a higher chance that you lose everything.

I quit gambling long time ago when I was on the verge of becoming an addictive gambler. I used to gamble regularly with my friends and I found it entertaining until it started to affect my studies and social life. Then, I tried to reduced my gambling activities.

Then, I got rid of it completely as I got used to the new routine. It was hard from the beginning, but then you will get used to it because your time is filled up with other various activities

That's why I don't believe them when they say that it's hard to quit gambling for good because if someone really wanted a change he can do anything even beyond his limit. They say that it just takes 21 days to make a new habit so if you just continue pursuing your change then it will happen. Just have a good diversion then it'll be all good.

On the other hand, I'm happy that I didn't get to the point of addiction or better yet I'll be miserable.
Same here with your last statement. Actually, after reading some stories already, it is obvious how it must have been tough and extremely crazy to have gotten to that stage in the first place.

Addiction is one hard thing to combat and I know the only best way to not get addicted into anything is to either stay clear off that thing or make sure you are in control right from the onset and you do not end up giving up that control to your impulses. I can actually imagine how crazy it must have been.
I think the person can remain addiction less even when he continues to go to casinos with his friends and other people. First of all he himself would have to think and hate gambling because it is not for the good sake of the person. Secondly, he should sit with the people and listen to their talks who have suffered the consequences of gambling and after that had left the gambling.

Sad

You're right without gambling in your life you could give lots of time for your family, but for those addicted with it it may take lots of time to remove the habits. We should analyze those scenarios that gives lots of reasons why you're getting addicted to gambling, and nothing could replace the family so as sort of friendly advice here; please avoid being stuck with gambling. Reconciliation for your maried life as a family man should be done in order for us to gain back the trust that has been lost due to addiction.

Im not a gambling addict but i know some and it didnt make anything good to them. One person i know becomes addict on the game called cock fighting that is a popular gambling here in my country. He works abroad and comes back here once a year and yes, he has plenty of money to gamble with. He really likes to gamble. He even get prison on the country hes working for because of addiction. I dont have any news about him after that.
Truthfully, it has not, except if we want to lie to ourselves. Although, the whole addiction did not just start in a day as so many people just get so greedy at some point and then they just kept looking for things in the spot where they obviously cannot find it.

So many people though gamble for different reasons, but the best way is to see it as fun and see how much you are gambling with as what you are paying for the fun but the chances of winning something from it is possible. If most gamblers can think it that way, I feel things would be a lot better than it is today.
