...and the St. Vincent distributors have confirmed that Bill will be there!
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/08/21/will-bill-murray-attend-bill-murray-day-yes-bill-murray-will/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

I'm going to try to find a Toronto Chiver who will be there and send them a sticker so they can try to give it to Bill! (It's rare to actually know when & where Bill will be, other than the golf tournament.)  Cool

I thought the dev was having regular conversations with bill.  Was this not the case?  Cause it shouldn't be that hard to simply ask Bill:  "Hey, Bill, where you gonna be next week?  Thanks!"

Come on guys, this is a good intentioned coin but it looks like bill has no clue there's an alt coin with his name on it.  I hope I'm wrong.

No, this is not the case. The dev has maintained contact with the Murray Bros Foundation on a consistent but infrequent basis. However, Bill is just not an accessible guy. He doesn't even have an agent, he just has an 800 number (which a select few have access to) where people can leave a message and if Bill wants to talk, he calls you.

Oh I see.  Correct, that's what was said, the foundation.  I just assumed it was bill.  My mistake.

I'll be honest, I've seen so many scams here but for some reason this coin seems to be legit.  I don't know how far you guys will get but I'm willing to buy some coins, especially since they're so cheap.

I wish you guys the best of luck!

Cheers!

I compiled a timeline of significant info/updates from this thread, for those who are newer to Murraycoin but don't have time to leaf through the dozens of pages in this thread to get caught up. All quotes are from bholzer.

Quote
January 31, 2014, 11:49:01 PM
We have received nearly 100,000 MRY in donations to the Bill Murray Charity Fund --We're 11 days in, guys.
Within 24 hours of launch, we had a Murraycoin pool up on FusionHash -- the best mining operation out there.
We're being followed on Twitter by Caddyshack Charity Golf (Bill Murray's annual charity golf event.)

February 10, 2014, 12:06:20 PM
Kanye is an asshole...and Bill Murray is a badass. Coinye had no ties with Kanye West.

February 10, 2014, 08:22:10 PM
We have been in contact with the foundation, yes. We have Bill Murray's indifference but we're working on getting him directly involved. He doesn't have an agent and he's been extremely busy promoting his movie/etc. There will not be a problem with this coin - our only concern is improving this coin.

February 10, 2014, 09:10:51 PM
Everything is going as planned; connections were made and the Murraycoin groundwork was done in December (over a month before the coin launched.)

February 12, 2014, 10:32:58 AM
The Murraycoin Reddit Tipbot has been rocking for about a week now.

February 25, 2014, 11:18:26 PM
My word only carries so much weight and we are at the mercy of [the foundation’s] timelines to make certain bits of information public [but] The Murray Bros. Foundation has no intention of unloading their MRY in the near future.
Our top concern was ensuring the legal aspects were covered and we have satisfied that requirement.
If there was a chance for legal conflict, I would have never been a part of this project.

March 06, 2014, 02:02:21 AM
We have already received over 250,000 MRY in donations from people all over the map. By revolutionizing celebrity fundraising, the Murraycoin Project will likely become a blueprint to the others that follow. Murraycoin is the perfect addition to Bill Murray's legacy as both an entertainer and humanitarian.

March 08, 2014, 03:16:42 AM
We were in contact with the director of the Murray Bros. Foundation before Murraycoin even launched and offered to go back to the drawing board and rebrand Murraycoin - they were not interested in rebranding Murraycoin.

April 08, 2014, 07:07:37 AM
Talks are initiated, these talks remains active, everything continues to progress and looks good. We have permission but we don't have an official endorsement (we won't rest until we do.)

April 21, 2014, 11:00:28 PM
Bill Murray and the Murray Bros. Foundation still haven't made a decision on whether or not they will be officially endorsing Murraycoin.
Even without the endorsement, we remain the only (real) celebrity currency featuring a celebrity that is cool with the project.

May 08, 2014, 04:55:04 AM
They [the foundation] aren't refusing the donations or pulling their support - they just don't intend to promote Murraycoin at this time.
This is a huge opportunity for the Murray Bros. Foundation and remains a cutting edge way to raise money for good causes from and for people all over the world. I believe they recognize this opportunity but have enough irons in the fire right now that a decision couldn't be made at this time.
For now, let’s just enjoy pushing forward without them and begin to grow the Murraycoin market cap organically.

June 17, 2014, 10:05:11 PM
At block 130k, the new difficulty adjustment method kicks in.
On July 4th, 2014 the PoW algorithm will switch from standard Scrypt to Scrypt-2048.

July 13, 2014, 11:11:16 PM
The Murraycoin Project, LLC just received a significant, much-needed investment (amount will remain undisclosed) from a new investor plus an additional cash injection in the form of me personally selling the small investment group 3,000,000 MRY for $25,000 USD cash (of which half will be reinvested in The Murraycoin Project, LLC).

Why has MurrayCoin doubled in price in just the last 48 hours on no news at all.

Not complaining (lol) I'm just curious.

I did buy a small position at around 150 Satoshi so it's nice seeing a coin actually go up in value.

Cheers!

We truly do not know... but there has certainly been a spike in volume this week. The only imminent news is the new website which should go live this week (currently waiting for our domain transfers to finalize). While we are making continued progress on other (more exciting) fronts, nothing is official and we have not leaked any new information.

Obviously the higher the price goes the easier it becomes to motivate the Murray Bros. Foundation to make a move so this recent uptick can only be viewed as a positive from every angle. I think the bottom line is that there isn't a lot to be excited about in the crypto world right now and, in this depressed market, more people are drawn to coins like Murraycoin which have relative longevity, legitimate intentions, fun communities, unlimited marketing opportunities, and a dev/team that continues to stand behind the coin... while still possessing potential that has yet to be tapped. There are no guarantees in life - this is certainly true for cryptocurrency - but Murraycoin is one of the few cryptocurrencies that is a signature away from launching into the stratosphere. Not to build unwarranted hype - I'm not alluding to an imminent deal/etc - but I think at the very least it would be prudent to include Murraycoin in any well-rounded altcoin portfolio and more people are starting to agree.

The initial hype phase is well behind us, the time frames have shifted, and it's been uphill all the way... but our goals remain virtually unaltered and we are closer than ever before. While most coins are dead/dying Murraycoin is actually starting to gain additional support, exposure, and attention. The success of a cryptocurrency is always a team effort and the members of this community who never gave up on Murraycoin, never gave up on me, and never stopped seeing the potential that exists here deserve a lot of the credit for our future success.

I want to thank you all again for sticking with me despite the excruciatingly slow progress (some of you have been here since day one); I want to thank all of the newcomers that decided they like what they see; our patience will achieve more than our force. We're in scoring position... and we've gotten there together.

The order books were pretty slim so all it took were a few interested folks with some spare BTC to ramp things up.

It sounds like the new site will be ready in time for Bill Murray Day.  Cool

New huge donations to the Murray Bros Foundation this week. Awesome work, everybody!

I'll have some graphics ready this week to help promote the new website.

FYI

Got some graphics to help promote the new Murraycoin website, which doesn't appear to have been put up yet so I'm not going to send them out to my followers on Twitter & Instagram until then, but here's what I've made...

And I just realized this today, but Bill Murray Day is on my half birthday! So yeah, the stars have aligned probably. Smiley

CURRENT FUND BALANCE: 470,799.66 MRY

Nice....

We really need them to get on board, I hope the above helps them make a decision.

Indeed! And speaking of large amounts of MRY, make sure to occasionally transfer your funds from Cryptsy into a password-protected wallet on your computer. To my knowledge, Cryptsy hasn't had any real security breaches, but in my mind the only thing that could hurt Murraycoin in the long-term would be a major theft of coins.

Peace, love, and Bill Murray everybody! Happy long weekend!

Anything that can be converted into BTC is a potential target, plus you're assuming that MRY price & volume are not going to grow. So yeah, you did mean to be rude. Next time before you post something, ask yourself: What Would Bill Murray Do?  Cool
