Are there any instruments to short BTC/USD? If we remember correctly, Bill Gates has said he would short bitcoin if there was a way.

when there are futures there are also both short and long futures. Shall I do a study on that? If no one brings any input there are now many good reasons for bitcoin dehype

You need to look at the previous price history of bitcoin, in it you'll see massive red candles and massive green candles.

Funnily enough, these candles correlate with the amount of bitcoin longs and shorts often. When the numbers of shorts seem to be getting super high, the price of bitcoin jumps up a lot, and when the amount of longs get high, the price drops.

I've read a few other people's theories that this is manipulation by exchanges so they can gain a profit during the downward trend, however this cannot be proven.

My favorite charts that have recently sprouted up are the Simpsons charts, like when the price jumps up a ton, goes a bit sideways for a bit, then drops back down. That's a classic Bart formation.

In my opinion there's way too much sketchy stuff going on with futures exchanges, and it seems like its essentially rolling a dice at this point. Way too much gambling for me.

I lost 2 bitcoins in a futures trade, which is very risky, and some transactions are manipulated all the time. If you intend to do so, you try not to put too much coins into it.

Of course there is a way, and if they couldn't find it then they weren't looking hard enough. Visit https://www.bitmex.com/ and you will be able to leverage up to 100x. Pretty intense and do your research before entering the ring that is leveraging.

IMHO, bitcoin price today is a sort of in a dip stage, so buy it is not bad. If you will hold it for long term like until 6 months or depends if when will bitcoin will bullish again then ,will be a huge profit. But its not easy, especially when you are always monitoring your digital asset. You need more patience and remove greediness. Your most enemy is yourself.

Futures is simply another easy way to lose your bitcoins. If you enjoy gambling then it's worth it for the buzz, otherwise i'd trade more safely on the exchanges - preferably on a dex with low fees

you can do that, even if it is easy if you want to study graph analysis on MACD in the short term you can get the advantage in internal time 4H

entire cryptographs are full of pump and dump media manipulations that the whales regularily do,

i consider bitcoin will continue losing market share ultimately becoming an annoying and irritating arrogant group of cryptocurrency freaks.

You would have done pretty well to short bitcoin a couple of months ago when it his its ATH.  Now?  I'm not sure if it's the best time to be shorting.  It's obvious bitcoin has fallen massively since then, and if it starts to soar again you're screwed if you have a short position.  Could you make money?  Absolutely, but I think it's far more risky to do so now than it was at the ATH.  Anyone with a brain could see that it got pumped up too fast and that the price wasn't sustainable.

There are ways to short it, though I have never done so.  I think some exchanges like Polo offer that.  All you really have to do is borrow some bitcoin and have the loan pegged to bitcoin and not fiat.  Not all that hard to do.

No, but you may help your broker make ton of money by shorting bitcoin. Did you know that trading is, like gambling, a game of negative expected value and the only ones that gain in a long run are the operators (brokers or casinos, depending if we talk of trading or of gambling)?

Yes of course especially if put a lot of money and do short term trading with bitcoin but don't expect higher profit if its just a small amount you'd better to play long term. Bitcoin is pumping and dumping and its a great time for an experienced trader to play with the market.

i think the opportunity is now that its more likely that bitcoin will continue to drop and stop influencing the market in that extent.

Its a double edge sword, do what you will, you may make tons of money and you may lose all your money, but if you think long term and keep holding crypto long term instead of fiat, it doesn't really matter right ?

no it does matter, because now you have the opportunity,

there are many reasons why bitcoin drops in price:

1. bitcoin futures are also now an opportunity to speculate with, we can here clearly say that the american banking cartel has successfully domesticated the wild bitcoin with their futures.
2. bitcoin has now a different situation not alone anymore but competing with more than 30.000 other cryptocurrencies for investors attention.

I once did, with a mature calculation I get profit from bitcoin that is down trend. this is quite risky and need a bit of a be lucky because one little bit can lose.
but I suggest, better looking long term than in the short term is too risky.

This is a good opportunity for us to get a lot of profit from the bitcoin price drop, we can make a purchase at a cheap price and try to get a big profit.

is it possible to make a lot of money shorting bitcoin?
of course it is, people have made money doing that.

can you do it too?
possibly not. there have been a lot of stories from people who have tried shorting bitcoin and lost a huge amount of money. just use google and you will find them. shorting is always 10 times riskier than simply buying bitcoin because if you buy bitcoin and price goes down you can just hold until it recovers and you make your money back. but if you short but price goes up you lose money period.
not to mention that you are shorting bitcoin which many consider the dumbest move because it is a coin that is on the rise most of the times.

Yes but for every dump there will be one stable state where it will stable around one week then you can buy from that dip it’s strategy followed and got some good profit . For me this strategy never failed in trading luck also matters some times.
