The Good news is the SEC are investigating Whales for market manipulation.

If the Justice department can link a whale to a futures position that was say SHORT and then find out the Whale dumped a mother load of BTC on the market it will be jail time for those involved.

The SEC are watching these Whales so they would want to be careful!

In my opinion the whales are running scared and that is why the market is in the doldrums.

I don't know that this is really happening lol. Stockmarket manipulation is really not illegal in my opinion tho we hate the idea because it sounds really unfair. But that is just how the crypto stocks really works. Tho i am not sure if they can really put them in jail

The SEC warning is addressed to the most insolent whales. Which brazenly and openly manipulate the market. I would say that these are small whales. I do not think that they are dangerous for the crypto currencymarket. The market is governed entirely by other whales. These are institutional investors. They have vast experience of trading in other markets and leverage on the media. They decide when the cryptocurrency market should go up, and when down.

Exactly even I am thinking the same being in trading in about more than half a decade whales are controlling most of the stocks in equity market . Same happening in crypto space I don’t think SEC can take major decision on this even they could make control then it should be positive move .

I remember there is a group of people wanting to sue those market manipulators. I wonder how can they figure it out and detects who is behind the dumping process. Whales, however, can start to benefit from this as they have big capitals and they have better control of the market.

Very easy to detect the manipulators!
Exchanges are been forced to work with SEC and Justice Dept!

The SEC has no jurisdiction in other countries and it is difficult to prove it in any way, because these whales are not working

alone. So do not get your hopes up that any SEC investigation is going to stop any of the price manipulation that is going on

globally.  

All markets have their whales that are influencing commodity prices, so we should just accept that and continue with the

experiment.

I think what whales do is nothing wrong, they are reasonable to do and can manipulate the market because they have huge capital. And everyone deserves to be a whales if he has a huge capital. This is the risk that every cryptocurrency user will face, price control depends on the person who has the big capital, we have agreed to the decentralization system that has the rule as now.

whales are the major thing threatening the decentralization of cryptocurrencies and I think it should be somehow naturally controlled that the whales are not ruling the network.

You just said it , they own the 1/3 Rd part of the market and the remaining 2/3 Rd are the investors .
They can manipulate the market no doubt but they can't kill Bitcoins.
Sooner or later it's bound to recover if they think about escaping the picture.
They cannot completely destroy BTC until and unless they own 100% of whatever btc have been mined yet.
I think we should think about our own contribution and let this thing slide since it's not something that's in our hands.

Absolutely.Bitcoin is traded internationally and i don't think that SEC would be able to effectively control all trades carried out worldwide.If the big whales use exchanges like Hitbtc which don't follow KYC,then it would not be possible.

Actually whales always play the game in dangerous was. They manipulate the price which give bad effect to those small fish bitcoin holder for they surely lose their earnings because of whales. However, there is also good side from whales manipulation for everybody are beneficiaries once bitcoin price rise everything rise then profit rise too.

Is this dangerous? Whales only use their money, then on what basis do they want to imprison big investors? Whales do not deceive humans, whales only outsmart market prices, take advantage of opportunities. Everyone can become a whale as long as they have a lot of money. And I think forbidding people to buy bitcoin equals violating human rights.

Bitcoin is highly decentralized  and if according to the poster SEC is watching does it mean that Bitcoin is no longer decentralized? If Bitcoin succumb to regulation then it is coming to an end for bitcoin and other altcoins. Let us wait and see.

So if I'm one of the whales and I wanted to dump all of my BTC due to some financial reasons so I'll be imprisoned for withdrawing my very own investment? That sounds ridiculous though. I know it sounds unfair cos the value of btc will be affected for such actions but no one can dictate you what to do with all of your investments. I really don't know why they find it illegal, its just a strategy done in a timely manner.

I hope you do understand that just selling your coins is totally legal, what is illegal is market manipulation when you artificially inflating or deflating the price of a security, coin or whatever, basically misleading market for your personal gains.

Yeah! they can do what ever they want to do in their coin because it is fair and they have also a right thing to do on their own.  Because if you want to have profit then know what the whales want to do and be like a whale, do buy when they dump it then sell it when you know that if it right time to sell your coin.  Yes, they can get into jail when the bitcoin was ban in their country.
