What do you mean by power? It'll never be up to much just because of the marketcap. It's not a wise investment for the future, but maybe you can have some fun with it now, but you're not gonna become rich off it.

i am fascinated by this coin. they added nothing and just forked litecoin, but their community is amazing. it is a little sad, that this coin has a bigger chance of getting big than another altcoin that really does something new. it will be interesting to see how far this goes.

With it's active community, it may be worth a look.

Dogecoin will definitely raise with it's community.
Just take a look on the subreddit /r/dogecoin. It has 50,000 subscribers and bitcoin has 100,000
Dogecoin is already on 6th place although it's only 3 months old. http://coinmarketcap.com/
There are currently so many charity evens which are run by people of dogecoin and there have also been successful ones which put a nice light on dogecoin.

it should be noted also, that this coin introduces a lot of people to cryptocoins. and its price has appeal too. who wants a fraction of a bitcoin if you can get 1000 doges for very little.
also doge is really cute.

Short-term I can see it gaining more traction. As of now, it's serving as a very good gateway of introducing and getting people interested in cryptocurrencies. That's why its growth isn't too surprising and if I were to bet, I'd have a decent amount of confidence in DOGE to at least maintain market presence (and possibly grow a little more in value per coin over the upcoming month).

Long-term though, I see a completely different outlook. I don't think it has enough staying power, unique utility or long-standing user base to maintain traction. A lot of people will say memes and that sort of thing, but once smart money moves away, I can't see DOGE maintaining it's market presence. Additionally, meme's don't last forever; once the thrill of this has run its course, people will likely move on to the next thing.

If only the value of coins was weighted by how many reddit subscribers it has lol.

Yeah, long term strategies with Dogecoin probably won't win too much, though there are short term gains to be had for sure.

I personally hate it, though if I can profit from it I will!

When the meme dies, the coin dies IMO. That's what I'm watching for, when people get sick of the meme.

Doge started as a joke and I think has surprised everyone, including probably its own dev team.  It has attracted a lot of infrastructure and support very quickly and so I see it could be a survivor.  However, the dev teams decision not to limit the number of coins does not make it a good investment compared to other cryptos.  In short, buy doge only if you have something you want to use it for, otherwise BTC seems a better "reserve" currency to me.
