Wonder what you people would recommend to absolute Bitcoin-newbies, which client to use on:

  • Windows (PC)
  • Mac (OS X)
  • Linux
  • Android
  • iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod)
  • Windows Mobile

Personally I recommend MultiBit or Electrum for the 3 desktop OSes (Windows, Linux and Mac OS X), Bitcoin Wallet or Mycelium for Android, and no idea about iOS and Windows Phone.

I consider Bitcoin-Qt and Armory to be more suiteable for experienced users.

What do you think?

Downloading the whole blockchain doesn't really qualify as newbies.

Tried a few, multibit on desktop and mycelium on my phone for pocket money have been serving me well. But i think there is much room for improvements in pretty much all platforms.

We only have a public release for Mac OS X, but several other platforms are planned for 2014. If you see anything we can do to make it easier for novices to interact with the Bitcoin community, please let use know.

Which platforms are you planning to develop Hive in?

An economy based on endless growth is unsustainable.

Not yet, as I don't use OS X myself, but I've heard good things about it.

Any chance you'll be releasing an iOS version?

Of better yet, a version for all 6 major platforms listed above? Smiley

Electrum. There are literally no wallets on iOS, now that even blockchain.info got removed.

Electrum.
I compared it to MultiBit, and both are pretty good in terms of functionality, safety, and user-friendliness.

One thing though about Electrum: the default transaction fee it suggests seems a bit off. It's rather high at times (as in, way more than necessary). And if I edit it myself, it keeps warning "not enough" but without specifying the required minimum. Or do I misunderstand something?
