As I mentioned in another thread, high quality bit coin domains are being snapped up at these crazy prices. How do I know? I'm on the inside of some deals right now.

What many of you don't seem to understand because you're not average joe's but early adopters/geeks/enthusiasts is that there is a FLOOD of investor money coming into the space and what this space lacks is credibility and ease to the average person. A strong domain is one very important piece of the puzzle in getting consumer confidence. You think the average person knows what the fuck easyco.in is? Most of them if they saw this name on a billboard or ATM would go "what kind of scam address is that?" An Indian extension is supposed to make the average person feel good? Especially when The Indian government has and might be in the future seizing domains they don't like???

TRUST. The missing link in the space right now. A strong .com domain won't solve your credibility problem if your venture sucks, but if all the rest of the elements are in place, a good domain creates instant recognition.

What looks better on the side of an ATM or billboard? Easyco.in or EasyCoin.com? The guys who launched easyco.in are HANDING free traffic to the owner of Easycoin.com because the average person mistakenly remembers the .com, not the .in. This is a CLASSIC noob mistake that those of us in the biz would never make. You're handing free money to EasyCoin.com, and you're setting yourself up for all kinds of trouble if EasyCoin.com launches a competing service. Let the UDRP begin!

Wacky extensions work fine for tech plays. But for a financial company that has almost zero credibility in the mainstream marketplace, launching with a .whatever is market suicide in the short term. Sure you can overcome a bad name, but it's so much easier to gain traction with a solid, memorable .com.

BTW I know the seller of BitcoinWallet.com. It is a totally legit sale that has been vetted by DnJournal.com, the industry trade mag.

For many of you, scratching heads. But for those of us in the know, a smart move on the way to establishing a brand and traffic.

Wow!  I find it hard to imagine that will pay off.  Why not just invest the $250,000 in bitcoin instead?

Because most finance entrepreneurs don't give a flying fuck about Bitcion.  They're just trying to make money off the latest fad.  Therefor their stupidity kicks in, and they treat this like any other startup.  Even if that means blowing $250k on a domain name.  Their trust is in the "Business Plan" and their own ability to grow a business.  Bitcoin is just a tool for most of them.  No awareness of investing in Bitcoin instead, and sitting on 200 million in 10 years.   To them the thought of that happening is absurd.

Let's get some facts straight. This domain wasn't purchased for giggles. The dreaded "finance entrepreneur" likely purchased this to build a killer wallet for us all. How could anyone argue that this is bad? Sure, the person dishing out the $$$ probably doesn't understand Bitcoin fundamentals like some of us do, nor will they be spending sleepless nights in front of a screen coding the app, but thats not their job.

How exactly do you expect Bitcoin to reach these monumental heights you speak of, if no one builds it?

It sounds like you already think long-term, big picture, about the price of bitcoin. Try applying that same logic to the infrastructure  

Couldn't agree with you more. The person or person(s) buying this domain know what they are doing, and most likely have very big money backing them. Whatever their plans, they obviously feel that the money spent here will lead to more down the road. It should also solidify most of our beliefs in Bitcoin and its future prospects.

I've purchased hundreds of sites and sold 1 of them for good money. 

However looking at bitcoinwallet.com it has to be new money, not an investor.  First in their own news section they list the article stating that it sold for 250k.  I'm not sure I would do that.  Second the website is a disaster.  Unless an early whale, with no marketing, design or idea of what is going on luckily mined 100k btc's in 2011 is rolling in cash I don't see what they are doing.

But ... for those saying that these prices are ridiculous.  They are not.  Imagine buying bit in 2011 for .1 and someone asks price as .5 .. you would have said they were crazy asking that and now you would leverage your house, car, wife to buy as many as you could at that price.

This site, if btc goes mainstream in the next couple of years, could be work 1mm +.  If they put some coding behind hit and get some subscribers they could sell it for $4mm +

Or of course btc could die and it becomes worthless.

Over the last couple of months I've picked up a couple of .com's related to btc but they are few and far between.  I made up words and add bitcoin in it and they are taken.  The majority of them are owned by a couple of guys.  This isn't a bad thing it just forces new money to make up more clever names.
