There is a second way to take part in Stories if you don't have great mining power. The alternative method to "mine" Stories is to tell one. 500,000 STY are held to pay out blocks of 3000 STY to anyone who tells a great story, be it written, filmed, painted, whatever.


HOW IT WORKS


IN THE SUBREDDIT

1. Write or link to your story or art. (full urls please, urls that have been shortened are automatically rejected)
2. Include "Submitting work" in the title. If it is a "text post" add your Stories public address at the end of your post. If it is a link, comment on your submission with the same information.
3. If other users like your work they can "verify" with the following: "@submissionusername coolstory" and must be followed by a comment on what they enjoyed about the submission.
EG:

@UnderAuthor coolstory
I specifically enjoyed that part concerning the cool story.

4. Those "verifying" work must reply to those who verified the same work before them, else be disregarded. This creates a chain of verification that makes it easier to process blocks.

5. If seven users verify your work then you will have mined a block and will be awarded 3000 STY

looks like the high speed cable modem went down for around 30 minutes
sometime around 6:00am EST ... and came back online around 6:30 or so....
I'm guessing it was the ISP... IDK  --- happened while i was asleep, but i noticed
that all the pools had approx. 30minutes of activity missing around that time.

the p2pool found so many blocks, the stats page was a mile long...

the pool data has been reset, and the p2pool is online

Looks like the miners who got in on STY early made out like bandits in the p2pool!
It was finding nearly every block...  which is cool

the p2pool is ONLINE and ready to shell out lots of payouts, as it had been.
sorry for any inconvenience --- still trying to figure out exactly wtf happened 6:00am, lol

i contacted the ISP

they said there was alot of suspicious activity including
heavy pings and port-scanners detected and that their
system temporarily blocked ports for 30 minutes

so WTF??? Why would people do this?
Either trying to steal wallets or take down the pool, i guess.

that stinks, whatever the reason ...

I had requested that the ISP refrain from auto-blocking ports
in future, as the linux server is very secure.

hope the miners who thought p2pool went offline
return - the poolrate was over 4Ths and getting
almost every block --- so miners were making LOTS and LOTS of payouts quickly
and paid out on every block too, as p2pools doesnt receive nor hold miners coins
like the sign-up pools do

ATTENTION:

Someone has been attacking the STY P2POOL's PORT 20450 

I can only speculate and have my suspicions as to who may be responsible ...

the STY P2POOL is now using a new PORT# ( IP is the same )

the new PORT# is 21450  and the website has been updated.

It is strange how this is the ONLY pool that the port is being attacked...

maybe because this was the first STY pool and was very successful?

Yes, the p2pool is ONLINE and using a new port#  ( 21450)
due to someone attacking that pools port...

all the other p2pools do not have this issue
its just this 1 new pool, which ran for a very long time
without issues, finding almost every block, and paying out
LOTS of payouts every block!

I had noticed before changing the port# for the pool, that the web-stats
page wouldnt load most of the time or even update.

Now that the STY p2pool is using a new port, the web-stats load
immediately as they should...

This has REALLY pissed me off - someone attacking the new pool
probably to run the miners off and to somewhere else - bastards!
Gee, I wonder who would have such a motive to do such a low-down thing like that...

Anyways,

the data has been cleared from that pool, so it might take 5-10minutes
before the pool stats and payouts start showing, as it is a fresh new pool again.

all the miners who were in p2pool who were getting all those nice payouts,
the p2pool is ONLINE and using a NEW PORT because the old port was attacked.

screw those sign-up mining pools
and SCREW whoever was responsible for the port attack --- I suspect a "competitor"

the p2pool was finding almost EVERY block before the attack.

the STY p2pool was the FIRST Stories Pool and collect the nice bounty for being #1

Miners get BIGGER payouts in p2pool VS. those sign-up mining pools

p2pool pays out EVERY block - and CANNOT receive or hold YOUR coins!

P2POOLs are the BEST POOLS to mine in --- because they ALWAYS pay out EVERY block found by pool - no minimum!

Miners are GUARANTEED payouts on p2pool pools when blocks found & show earnings !

Again, the STY P2POOL was the very FIRST Stories mining pool, and those who were in it
before SOMEONE decided to interfere.  The p2pool miners made ALOT of payouts, and
I am sure they are VERY happy with their wallet balances from the P2POOL


If you switched to sign-up pools when p2pool got attacked, then you need to get back in the p2pool
and start getting those NICE payouts again.
