What is a testnet-box (MPOS installation)?

Hello,

I want to make my own pool for private purposes. The goal is to connect multiple miners to solo mine.

I read this: https://github.com/MPOS/php-mpos/wiki/Quick-Start-Guide

But I actually stuck at the "Test Network" because I can't find a definition of what this should be. The thing is that I want to install it locally on my Mac so I need to know what it is

And is the litecoin testnet box working with every scrypt coin?
