One of the prime altcoins is WorldCoin. It is not for short term trading but for 2-3 years - it will make the bagholder wealthy as it is replacing BitCoin currently.
The more and more merchants are announcing they accept WorldCoin as a method of payment, the community is strong and it is proven it will rise victorious even from the most extreme challenges.

Now really , what are you smoking?
How about you compare the merchants that started to accept bitcoin this year and the ones that accepted worldcoin?
The gap is only growing.

Bitcoin, Litecoin (maybe??) and some that have PoS like Hobonickels. Even Nxt if the so called community manages to pull their heads out of the asses and stop their "us vs everyone else" stance. Their very different software is an extra pain to manage, though.

Stay away from speculative/hyped like Maxcoin or Doge. Those are great for flash trades, not my picks for long term storage. Be careful with scrypt coins (mainly with low network hash) which can be victims of ASICs, most-profit pools, 51% attacks, be unlisted from exchanges, etc... they're dumped frequently and globally I see them going down slowly.

In short, it's not easy to give you a definitive answer, because I'm interested in this topic and have no damn clue what to do myself  Tongue

Oh, and stop spamming your favorites or the ones you hold, disregarding what the OP asked....

1. Bitcoin - If it doesnt go up no other coin will
2. Dogecoin - Just because of the weird masses that love this coin.
3. Hobonickel - 2% proof of stake every 10 days.  Good long run coin.
4. Vertcoin - Good community and one of the bigger Scrypt Nfactor coins
5. Ultracoin - Scrypt Jane, Nfactor and 20% yearly Proof of stake.
6. Microcoin - Huge potential (long shot pick).  Scrypt-Jane POW/POS mining with modified nFactor.

I believe Scrypt-Jane and Nfactor coins will take off more in the long run due to Scrypt ASICS.  Also some of the ones I listed bring new things to the table other than just your normal copy/paste coins.

Easy...

1.Mastercoin - This coin has over 30Million in development money backing it. Omni wallet is going to be released soon that will put EVERY SINGLE existing wallet to shame bar NXT. Also the distributed exchange is launching around march along with Mastercoin being added to another more used exchange.

2.Bitcoin - I don't even have to state why.

3.NXT - They have just released there new decentralised exchange that truly is an innovation within the alt community. They also have large dev teams.

4. Doge

5. Protoshares - Huge company backing. Likely to be taken on by business's.

6. Karma... Because I have a S**T load of them Smiley

Bitcoin2 coins that copy the Mastercoin and colored coin techniques will be local currencies only.

Bitcoin

Hobonickels  (PoS interest is great, awesome wallet and other features) + good developer
Novacoin (Strongest PoS coin with decent return [used to be better but difficulty went really high last 2 months)  + good developer
Darkcoin  (at least some anonymity is a precious thing to have in our NSA-spied upon world) + good developer

Then two coins which haven't been released yet which I'm going to dive head first into.

It's actually pretty awesome how many great coins came out this year. For every 30 crap copy coin there has been a good new coin.

Coins I'm not big on:

NXT  don't think it'll live up to its promises, don't see it happening at all.
Dogecoin   happy for you guys who are into it but I don't see it succeeding as it doesn't have great fundamentals  (but ya, never underestimate a cute logo though I guess?)

BitCoin - Obvious but could start to decline with newer better alts.
MicroCoin - As some have already stated above - huge potential, ASIC Proof, N-Factor, PoW/PoS - still lying low with a distribution system which is the fairest I've seen to stabilize the coin.
DarkCoin - I see this as gaining traction with the underworld and gaining huge value for how it can be used
VertCoin - great community and developer - I can see this taking off with other N-Factors coins (MicroCoin etc) once ASIC becomes mainstream and CPU/GPU miners shift away from standard scrypt coins.

Fast confirmations make the mass adoption o merchants accepting the coin after they hear about this exceptional coin.
