Around 4-5am EST the price dropped for an instant, i'd say around 5-530am EST it was closer to 450-500 USD and then slowly crept up to 600+
Is this what those day traders at BTC-E wait for? I guess I can see how it could be profitable but sitting at a computer waiting for something abnormal to happen seems pretty dull.

I got 226 new BTC today, most at the 200-300 range and I LOVE IT!
Hey lucky fella i hope it will turn out a profitable for you ...! Thanks Rohnearner I'll be donating a few coins in the weeks to come to help spread the good fortune. I was an idiot and lost .3 BTC this morning of my 2.1 btc when I panic sold in the after-effects of the 102 sell, like an idiot. Though I did pretty well recovering from it, I'm feeling quite sad. Want to be a pal and help a fella out? I'd really appreciate it. 16yX2h6XnW2vaTXHxsj6Er6mD9aW6bLUKH Around 4-5am EST the price dropped for an instant, i'd say around 5-530am EST it was closer to 450-500 USD and then slowly crept up to 600+

At BTC-E you can set buy-in orders at a predetermined price. Same for selling. Most of those people were sleeping and someone sold right into their buy order...I'm sure MANY people woke up very happy, lol. For me it was one of those nights last night.. Hm... I feel a big crash coming... But decided not to sell. until I woke up, ran downstairs when it was 670, needed phone to log into BTCE, ran upstairs and by the time i was back down, started crashing from initial 670 to 640... god damn 2 factor auth screwed me over! From there I thought it may be bottoming out and just watched it fall and got more and more sad before I was an idiot! lol

Everyone who bout at 102 had a bot (auto-buys/sells) with a number that low set in its queue. There was a lot of activity yesterday morning too with the waiting for MtGox news to come out. However, day trading can be quite profitable if done correctly...and can get your adrenaline going. I would say day trading is less dull than buying a currency and waiting to see if it goes up in price (not saying that you do this)

What a fool why would anyone in their right mind do that??? I would take no less than 500 for my coins even if it did drop to $50 because I know that It would go up again.

Lucky bastards who profited from it... I guess maybe it was a guy who needed to sell them as quickly as humanly possible.
No other explanation, really..

I think it was much more than that... It happened on all the major exchanges right around the same time just much heavier on BTC-e... I was sleeping when it happened and I'm jealous for those who were at the right place at the right time!

Bobsurplus: Which exchange did you use to execute that trade?
BTC-E Did you use metatrade to buy or have done manually? Also do they have problems with the withdrawal process i mean did you withdraw frequently I have read bad feedback about them from people claiming large amounts

Seconds, user sold all and bottomed the sell orders at 102.
Apparently there are lots of reports around of peoples buy orders not being triggered during this $100 plummet. Just so happened that MT4 stopped working on the BTC-e and Bitfinex for the duration of the flash crash. Alles hier ist ganz in Ordnung! Nothing to see here people! Move along now.
