What are their motives:

To pump and dump.

Or

Pump and get the price of BTC and investors confidence up. In this instance I would hope the intentions are good!

Greedy whales are rocking the space. Once crypto goes over 2-3 trillion USD then the manipulations will stop, it will be too huge market to manipulate easily.

sorry you are in the wrong board, here this is the board that you should be on: Altcoins board.
pump and dump is what is happening to altcoins not to bitcoin.

just because price is going up it doesn't mean it is a "pump". price has reached the bottom, couldn't go below the support which proved to be extra strong and now the trend (downtrend that has been going on for 7 months) is being reversed, so price is rising.

There is a FOMO brewing...

The price of bitcoin doesn't pump. It simply fluctuates. Either the price rises or goes down. However, mostly the fluctuation of demand and supple are responsible for the price ups and downs of bitcoin.

They are manipulators of market, and their motive is obviously to earn huge by manipulating price of bitcoin by several tactics like spreading FUD and cashing out etc.
After this recent huge downfall one good thing that i have observed that many sensible bitcoin users didn't sell their bitcoins because they are now well aware of these evil moves by manipulators.

No one or nothing is responsible for the price pump of Bitcoin. It's just the nature of it which goes ups and downs. If people buys Bitcoin to a large amount and hold it for long, the price gradually start increasing.

Most likely the ones who have deep knees on the cryptocurrency. There isn't anyone who would have the motive to push it up knowing that it can be slammed down hard at any given time. I always think that this is a collaborative effort and not just the workings of a lone individual who has a large control of the market, otherwise no pushes will be successful at all. The reason as to why they do this, we don't know. It's likely that they do this to bait other people in buying in and insta-sell their holdings to make profit. It always happen in the markets.

Whales are the one who controls bitcoin prices every time. Recently 250million Tether was printed. I guess that these are used slowly to pump up the price. This is pure manipulation indeed. I don't believe that we are yet done with the correction. This probably looks like a bear trap. It's possible that we ll go further upwards near 8000$ region. But still we ll go down to low 5k regions later.

Not every rise in the price of the bitcoin can be termed as a PUMP in the price and similarly not every decline in the price can be called as a DUMP in the price. It requires a continuous observation of the market to interpret something out of the crypto market. If it is the option II, i.e., Pump and get the price of BTC and investors confidence up, then of course what else is good for the bitcoin community.
No one or nothing is responsible for the price pump of Bitcoin. It's just the nature of it which goes ups and downs. If people buys Bitcoin to a large amount and hold it for long, the price gradually start increasing.
That is pretty much clear to those who have been into this space for quite a long time. It is the market forces of demand and supply that have a direct bearing on the prices of the bitcoin.

People continue to blame whales for causing drops in bitcoins and pumps, but the real cause of the damage is the greed of people who continue to pump bitcoin value, when in fact they know that bitcoin is not an investment tool but bitcoin is made as a means of payment.
And those who are constantly HODL, as if by holding and not using bitcoin as a means of payment, they can get everything. whereas, using bitcoin as a means of payment equals to maintaining viability of bitcoin.

I think OP have misunderstood about Bitcoin as Bitcoin is not a pump and dump coin as you can see that the price only is fluctuating and their is no chance of getting dumped and dead like other altcoins. Bitcoin will survive until their are other altcoins.

I think it depends on market.By the Btc has more demand now and many investors want to increase its price for earning more profit. Many of us want to invest in btc.Its huge demand is responsible for its pumping.

I used to believe pumping BTC is referred to as manipulation...BTC price can be manipulated either by high volume buy order fill or by strong FA... I think Wall Street traders are found of something like this when it comes to price manipulation.

Bitcoin today can't be manipulated literally unless it will be done intentionally by majority of large holders although chances are slim. It's just that they can create a positive and negative thing that may triggered a certain trend either uptrend or downtrend.

Going back to the OP's concern, I see that the price increase happened is just a normal price movement. We may also noticed that the increase is not continous and the price is playing within a certain level so in here we can see that everything is just a normal phase.

Just go with the flow. Manipulated or not, we can't do nothing about it.

Actually most of businesses that already adopts bitcoin was trying to pump it up for them to retaliate their loss from that massive fall, it is somehow combined with whales and with people who wants to recover their losses anyways it cannot be determined whether it was for a good intention or not but that is not important as long as it has a good effect for the people who's taking advantage of the pump.

I do not think that bitcoin prices can be pumped. This is simply due to the demand of the market affecting the price of bitcoin only

Yes, why not? Price going up is pump, while price going down is dump. It is a common word for trader and its usually happening in the cryptocurrency market and also the stock market.
Quote from: Wikipedia link=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_and_dump
"Pump and dump" (P&D) is a form of securities fraud that involves artificially inflating the price of an owned stock through false and misleading positive statements, in order to sell the cheaply purchased stock at a higher price.
