Suppose one likes the idea of GPU hostile currency, but dislikes the idea of Tenebrix being invented as a potential laundry with over 7 million coins going to its creator.

How difficult would it be to rename Tenebrix (into Fairbrix, for example), create a new genesis block without the premined coins, and let everyone mine on it?

Hell, I'll even start the bounty at 200TBX.

A lot of stuff actually seems to be set in the configuration file itself.
https://github.com/Lolcust/Tenebrix/blob/cpumine/tenebrix.conf

- Fork the repository
- Rename stuff
- Change the IRC channel name in the configuration file
- Change the Subsidy value to 25 (aka normal brix generation) in the configuration file

Heck, I may try doing it now.

Rename it Fairbrix, release the new code within 50 blocks generated on this forum and I'll send you 200TBX.  Of course, a Tenebrix clone without the premined laundry nonsense would quickly make TBX worthless in my opinion, but who knows.

So on one hand you call laundry "nonsense", on the other hand you say that the clone will be worthless without it ?

Strange. You confuse me.

Anyways, don't forget to generate a new genesis with a fancy quote, and don't forget to warn LF that yet another channel is gonna have an alt talking in it. EDIT and change the magic numbers that determine message start thingie, or it might get very confusing very fast.

The genesis might take you some time on a weak CPU tho. I generated mine for quite some hours on GF's i7

Also it's somewhat strange to post a bounty for something like forking TBX in TBX, but if you give me a day or so to finish messin' with faucet, exchange and pool, I'll do it all except the "generate new genesis" (I'll leave the honor to seed it with a quote of your choice to you ) part for 150 TBX  Grin

Ah, that's a typo. Okaydokay. Anyways, the 150 TBX offer holds if you wait a mite, since I'm quite caught up with them exchanges and the faucet

P.S.:

Why don't you also post a bounty for forking Geist in GG ? Everyone except me is playing on the geist exchange, and I can't (only have pre-mined ones left, and promises are promises)

I feel kinda left out. Throw a guy some GG will ya ?

Just spent few minutes renaming everything from Tenebrix to Fairbrix (alongside with some other stuff to differentiate it from Tenebrix)

https://github.com/Matoking/Tenebrix

Time well spent.

And no, I have no idea if this will work. I'll try it and see if it explodes in a nuclear fireball. (pretty unlikely but would be kinda cool if it happened)

EDIT:
Assertion fail.
No nuclear fireball.
Sad face.

Couldn't bother to rename the repository yet. Tongue

[13:59] <Lolcust_nobounce> Hi ^__^
[13:59] <michaelmclees> Ahh... OK, we'll chat here then.
[14:00] <michaelmclees> Care to make a deal?
[14:02] <Lolcust_nobounce> A deal ? I sorta like deals, but that depends...
[14:03] <michaelmclees> You believe in TBX, so name your price.  Surely it's higher than 150 for the service I request.
[14:04] <Lolcust_nobounce> Errr, you mean for forking it ?
[14:05] <Lolcust_nobounce> I don't mind forks so my offer of help was quite genuine
[14:07] <Lolcust_nobounce> If your offer is "name your price for not forking it", then I must say that it would be pretty ugly of me to pay someone not to fork an opensrc project, don't cha think ?
[14:07] <michaelmclees> I mean start a new client altogether.  All instances of "Tenebrix" are replaced with "Fairbrix".  Restart the blockchain at 0 so new nodes see 1 block (or whatever) instead of 9270.  Change the little icon so there is an FX rather than a TX.
[14:07] <michaelmclees> If that is what forking is, then yes, a new fork.
[14:07] <michaelmclees> Hell, I'll pay 300TBX for that.
[14:08] <michaelmclees> But I thought that a new fork would start with block 9270.
[14:11] <Lolcust_nobounce> wait
[14:11] <Lolcust_nobounce> You want to fork the chain or the project ?
[14:12] <michaelmclees> I want a new project, but I know nothing about coding.  So keep everything you have, save for the name, and the premined genesis block.
[14:13] <michaelmclees> I don't know if that's a fork or not.
[14:13] <michaelmclees> As I understand it, you fork at the current block.  I'm asking for a new block 0.
[14:13] <Lolcust_nobounce> So, you fork the project
[14:14] <Lolcust_nobounce> No, forking @ current block = blockchain fork
[14:14] <Lolcust_nobounce> That would mean you will need 51% of current TBX hashrate to work
[14:14] <Lolcust_nobounce> if you want to start from scratch you will need to fork the project, with new genesis and things
[14:15] <michaelmclees> That is what I'm requesting.
[14:17] <Lolcust_nobounce> Can do
[14:18] <Lolcust_nobounce> What would you like in the genesis block ?
[14:18] <michaelmclees> When will it be ready?
[14:20] <Lolcust_nobounce> I think maybe tomorrow, or so. As you can see, I'm caught up in may a thing at the same time ^__^ Pick a pithy quote to stuff into genesis
[14:22] <michaelmclees> Whatever is the headline of the New York Times on the day it is released.
[14:24] <michaelmclees> I don't really care much.
[14:24] <michaelmclees> So long as I get to mine the first block.
[14:25] <michaelmclees> I'll announce it after I've mined a few.
[14:27] <Lolcust_nobounce> Oh, that's oky
[14:27] <michaelmclees> What is your wallet address?
[14:28] <michaelmclees> I'll send half the payment now and half when the project is complete.
[14:29] <michaelmclees> I'll post up this conversation in the thread offering the bounty.
[14:29] <michaelmclees> Is this OK?
[14:35] <Lolcust_nobounce> OK, post it in the thread - I don't have TBX on this machine so I'll post the addy in the thread a mite later
[14:35] <Lolcust_nobounce> post it = post the convo
[14:35] <michaelmclees> We have a deal then.
[14:35] <michaelmclees> Thank you.

Looks like we have a taker.  Infact, it is Lolcust himself who will do it.  I'll say this about him, he has confidence in his product.

*cough* Just a friendly bit of advice - best to announce it as soon as you know it works (a couple of dozen test blocks should do it I'd think), otherwise it wouldn't really be Fairbrix :-)

I'll mine this like I mined tenebrix seeing that i still like it's qualities even without the laundry.  I still think tenebrix with a laundry > tenebrix without one though.

It can be tricky. Worry not, I'm on the case and the fork will be made in about a day or so (I'm kinda caught up in a whole pile o stuff now)

Good. Hopefully it will be supported like Tenebrix.

Well, obviously I won't be doing techsupport in the forums (I have tenebrix and gg to cater to, and I have about two eyes and two hands, a job, a side-job and a GF. Only so much a single Lolcust can) and negotiating with exchanges and other such thingies is up to michael as well.

Also, I won't be doing code maintenance (not that I'm good at it), but given that TBX and this will share codebase, it will be a question of michael copypasting any kewl Tenebrix tweaks into his code (and TBX is opensource)

I'll mine this like I mined tenebrix seeing that i still like it's qualities even without the laundry.  I still think tenebrix with a laundry > tenebrix without one though.

Diversifying investments ? Wise Smiley
