Since when is/was money fun?
You can have lots of fun. Depends what you do with it. Oh whenever I see a Duck Tales image, it's ruined by Family Guy. Hey, I guess this is still tons of fun after all! Just don't get too bloodied up swimming in a bunch of metal/stone objects...

Maybe a bitcoin lottery that supports good causes. It would generate some good publicity.
People choose their numbers, buy as many tickets as you like, then 30% of the money would go to support some good causes and the rest would go on the jackpot and some smaller payouts. If someone wins 1000btc that would be good publicity.
Maybe the 30% could be distributed to African schoolchildren I dunno. I think the fundamental problem is that not enough people own BTC. And since the price rise that's only going to get worse. Big btc holders need to spend bitcoins and pay people in bitcoins especially pay people who don't own bitcoins yet.

The bitcoin animal mascot: By allowing fun. That's really all you need to do. The Reddit-ban on memes was one of the worst decisions ever made by the mods over there. And the downvoting of funny comments by the community doesn't exactly help either.
Isn't there a subreddit for bitcoin memes?

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

another huge price run up would be fun
I think the opposite. A huge price drop would be fun to watch. good point, I would like to see that so I can scoop up some cheap coins This, because I lost all my coins recently.

It became boring when the whales, thinking that they know what's best for bitcoin, decided that there was too much volatility in the price bc people were complaining that a currency can't be volatile - that was the period when the price was right around 800 whenever you looked it up. They didn't see this mtgox problem coming or the subsequent ddos attack. So we had a downturn. What makes bitcoin exciting is that it is an alternative currency, limited in number, to government fiat which gets printed at will. I felt that, but for the whales, the price would have increased substantially when the major currency issues arose with the Argentine peso and the Turkish Lira. Bitcoin needs to be the go-to place to store wealth when governments play their currency games - or do things like Cyprus did back in April.
NO ONE REALLY CARES ABOUT BITCOIN BC IT'S A WAY TO TRANSFER MONEY EFFECTIVELY AND CHEAPLY. THAT IS A GREAT AND POSITIVE FEATURE TO IT, BUT FOR PURPOSES OF MASSIVE ADOPTION, IT'S NOTHING MORE THAT A COLLATERAL FEATURE. How many people would buy bitcoin if you told them that the price would be guaranteed not to budge from $700 for the next 20 years? Answer: ALMOST NO ONE.
WE NEED VOLATILITY TO HAVE MASSIVE INCREASES IN PRICE, LIQUIDITY, AND ADOPTION ON A GLOBAL SCALE.

Simple answer.
Escape the idea that Bitcoin is a speculative currency for a few IT freaks, and open channels where you can exchange bit coins for merchandise.
The more practical alternatives to apply bitcoins to mainstream society, the better the chance that bit coins remains a part of the future and not a page in some finance history book!
Lets be frank, any 'brand' that has survived the test or time has had to had some appeal to the masses. It's the product life cycle, once you step on the tread mill, you need to keep moving forward.

Get out to a meetup and join forces with other bitcoin enthusiasts. Our group in AZ has grown from 6 people to 120 people in just a few months. The energy and entrepreneurial spirit at our events is undeniable. Grow a local community and build local economies....it's incredibly fun and rewarding.
