Makes perfect sense. Africa is a pioneer in the wallet system (EG W1- Wallet One), where all transactions take lace via mobile phone. Bitcoin is a perfect evolution of this payment method. Great news. After all, if mankind paved the way for human evolution, it may as well pave the way Bitcoin!

Most European/US banks are unprofitable, over-leveraged and stuck in the stone-age.
Banking is one of the few things South Africa actually does well & Standard Bank is at the top of that pile.

Would not be surprised if this is actually a Chinese move to more easily get money in and out of its post-colonial industrial child, South Africa. There are numerous advantages for the Chinese in doing so. :
