I have had a look at the forum and found the following threads
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85495.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=513726.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2852348.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2695032.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=360183.0

Haven't really found a way to do that myself though. Isn't there an online tool where I can just enter the chars that I have got, and it will give me back all the PKs of wallets with at least 0.01 eth in them? That would be really useful.

Otherwise other suggestions you have?

It's not possible in my opinion. there is no a tool like that even if you are only trying to retrieve less than four characters and there were a thousand possibilities.

I'm sorry for your loss but so many times people have asked the same thing as this one and it's not possible.

Less than four characters (=3) would be super easy to recover, that's only 16^3 possible combinations.

There's no other possible way aside from trying all of the combinations of letter and numbers you need but it seems too impossible if you dont use tool's that give's all the possible combinations.

I would suggest you to forget about that wallet and make a new one 0.01 ETH is not a huge amount.

Thanks for bumping this thread, 1993jochico. I don't think there would be an online tool for retrieving the keys of the wallets nor we can retrieve them manually with the available keys. We all know that, there are about roughly 2^96 keys available for each which is pretty large number and also would be impossible for the collision to occur and you to take control of the random private key. Also it would be really a tedious job for us to find the keys which hold currency. Most probably there won't be a collision which will make you to gain control of the keys. Neither there isn't an online tool to solve this and it is impossible to find the wallet with the balance.

Here is a quote of mine which could help you :
it is literally impossible for the privkeys to clash with one another when they are being created. For instance, they are around 2^256 private keys existing in this universe and 2^96 keys for each address. It's almost impossible to find a private key with balance left in them.

Less than four characters (=3) would be super easy to recover, that's only 16^3 possible combinations.
Could you explain this quite a little bit more clearly? Also, note that the threads which you have quoted has OP holding almost all the words or chars except 1 or 2. But in your case, you are just trying a random one.

Another one who doesn't understand what he's talking about.

Have you tried this?

https://myetherwallet.github.io/knowledge-base/private-keys-passwords/missing-characters-of-private-key.html

I've only tried for two missing chars, and it's work, but I'm not sure it will work for 6-8 chars missing.

You can still let go of that amount and concentrate on better things, because you may not be able to recover them back. Most times, predicting values, numbers of private keys may not work.

Better start typing, because you're gonna have to go through the combinations yourself

lesser than 4 characters it's not so many combinations, but never tried with 6+ missing characters. I think you have to try manually all the possibilities.

This is a good find and should not be too difficult to anyone's needs.

However, what OP is asking "and it will give me back all the PKs of wallets with at least 0.01 eth in them" is unrealistic, since he should know the correct address for which he pretends to have the private key.
