Hello, I was new here, I was told by my friend to join here. After I read some on the meta section and some section is something I want to ask. Do you think looking for merit by reporting cheaters on bounty campaign then making post in section meta allowed or ethical? thanks

P.S: What I mean maybe when we post a report and get merit from a member here not directly asking to give merit to me to other members

As long as you are not begging merits and only post substantial things, you should be fine.

Busting cheaters is good; it contributes in the forum hence, it is substantial
If you aren't mentioning "please merit me" or anything along the lines in every post you made, you are not begging.
If you aren't sending PM's to any user asking for merit, you are not begging.

It's fine to post with gaining merits in mind. After all that's one of the reasons why the system is introduced - to improve post quality but I suggest that it shouldn't be your priority. I've seen some users with alike mindset and they are more focused on gaining merits rather than the discussion which resulted in not gaining any obviously.

It is one of diversified methods to earn merits in the forum.
It's good because you can make your contributions by cleanning the forum out of shitposters and merit abusers a bit.
Do you think looking for merit by reporting cheaters on bounty campaign then making post in section meta allowed or ethical? thanks
Additionally, for your interests, I shown you several topics on reporting abusers:
1) List of users who are abusing merit system
2) More mass merit farming

Nevertheless, I would like to recommend you to focus more on improving yourself rather than finding and reporting abusers. It's good but not enough, and most importantly, it doesn't make sense to help yourself.
You almost got nothing (knowledge, skills - at somewhat extent you can improve your skills by finding abusers, etc.) from the sort of abuser-finding tasks.
Spending most of your time to learn new crypto-, blockchain-related knowledges, skills is your better option (at least in my stance).
For this purpose, you should spend your time to read these following topics first, before focussing on finding abusers.  Grin
1) Newbies – Read before posting (Lauda). The one presents essential things for newbies.
2) [Tips] Guide for forum search . The one help you using the forum more efficiently, avoiding to create non-sense threads/ topics because you can find available ones for your interests.
3) TMAN's guide to getting merits. The one shows you methods to avoid falling into merit-begging thoughts.
4) Full Member thanks to merit system (iasenko). This guy ranked up to Senior Member by his extremely constructive works.

You are right at this point!
Finding and reporting abusers, cheaters, scammers is one of constructive approach during your active time spent in the forum.
Busting cheaters is good; it contributes in the forum hence, it is substantial
WRONG!
Composing threads with merit begging attitude in mind will somehow get your ideas stucked at low levels.
In my experience, simply thinking of what I can contribute to discussions which I would like to participate in. That's all at the start, and should be like this during thread-composing period.
Honestly, I can not make a good thread if I have merit-begging attitude and don't focus on how to really contribute to discussions.

Out of context! What I said is this

If you had taken account all of that you'll know I didn't mean it that way. When I said "it's fine", it's for the reason that merit is used to rank up and in order to gain one, you will need to post something substantial. In other words it could become a stepping stone for someone to stop shit posting - to actually polish his posts.

One of the reasons the system is introduced is to get rid or shit posters/account farmers. And the above situation is the ideal outcome. But of course, not everybody would take it that way which is why I advised to stop prioritizing it because:

I'm talking about those people posting unnecessary tutorials, plagiarizing etc..

Hey, can you get the merit in this way?
I always think that only by writing some valuable posts can you get the merit.

Hello, I was new here, I was told by my friend to join here.
Hope that your friend didn't tell you that this forum can make you a living for you will be drawn to the wrong path. Since you're new in here you don't need to think about getting merits or to rank up. I suggest that you take time to read and learn about the technology.
After I read some on the meta section and some section is something I want to ask. Do you think looking for merit by reporting cheaters on bounty campaign then making post in section meta allowed or ethical? thanks
Merit system was implemented not to this purpose of us moderating the forum for spams and such. This is to encourage members who wish to rank up by posting valuable and constructive posts.
P.S: What I mean maybe when we post a report and get merit from a member here not directly asking to give merit to me to other members
As a newbie it would be worthwhile if you spend most of your time reading and learning in here than moderating the forum for cheaters of bounties. The merit system is not meant for those actions so its not really an assurance that your efforts of investigating cheating accounts will be merited. It's just a total waste of time.

My advice: Just learn about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, and try to be helpful and contribute as much as you can here on bitcointalk. That's pretty much it. Some or probably most people who earn merit doesn't even try to earn merit. They're just really knowledgeable that casually replying earns them merits.

Just be sure about the allegations you make because if you're wrong, you'll have to pay the consequences.

No, my friend just told me that in this forum is very fun for someone like me who likes to "interfere" people's business. He also said that when I wear a signature things I can get some extra btc. Actually I already know the crypto from stellar airdropped xlm and I'm more active in stellar forums. Cheers

Thanks for the advice guys!

If you keep on writing good posts , you will get merit eventually with time.

To be honest, merit system was introduced in order to promote good content and asking for merits, in any case, is not appreciated. It should be something like a spontaneous Facebook post and others will give you merits if they like it. Directly or indirectly asking, begging or buying merits is unethical in my opinion.

My first reaction on reading your post was " Yet another leech arrived to sponge off out efforts".

I've put you on ignore, and I would suggest that either you leave, or you stop and read some of the constructive threads here.  Ignore the bounty and other underworld ones, and concentrate on the emerging golden world of crypto. There is more to crypto than begging for pennies, and polluting the forum to gain worthless coins.

I don't think that is a good way to earn you merit.
Report abusers is good, but that's not good for you.
That will make you become a negative person, just hobbies to look for the others faults.

Ok then, just try to earn merit with good ways

Nobody is going to give you merit for reporting...

But reporting to the moderator is not for earning the merit, we should also do something, which is good for this forum without any greed.

So we should report the abuser/spammer to the moderator to clean this forum.
