A sexy nurse! http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii283/hokageaddict/hot-japanese-nurse-1.jpg

But seriously at least they're being contained into one section now, I think you're right in maybe that we need a whole section for ponzi schemes though.

Agreed! The Leancy HYIP (ponzi) is being marketed as a legitimate business all over the forums as well, somewhat disturbing.

What is wrong with this? ponzis are gambling and are in the right sub-forum.

It is called a Ponzi "Scheme" because it is not a gambling game, but a Scheme to bilk "investors" out of money.

Creating a extra sub-forum just for ponzi's could be a good idea I never thought of that.

I'm glad you reversed yourself quickly.

The sub-forum from gambling would be a mis-categorization, but any split from our regular marketplace/gambling is much, much needed.

People who deposits into this scheme are often the same, most of the money is deposited by people that "know" what they are doing : they are gambling hoping to get some profits before it stops
The fact is that the first investors can get a lot of money

It is obvious that some depositors don't know what they are doing and think it is an ''investment'' but it is a minority and small deposits

Full disclosure: I'm currently developing my own ponzi site.

Ponzis which are not clearly described as a ponzi should be removed without fail. In my opinion, Ponzis are just another form of gambling; some win but the majority to lose, Just like any other gamble.

Well it's certainly a gamble putting your money in them. Maybe having a section for Ponzis/pyramids or other HYIP would be a good idea, and maybe putting a warning on the forum like there is Securities.

We have a place for those threads already. Games and Rounds. It was placed there because of the chaos created by spreadsheet ponzi's and all sorts of craziness created in October(ish) of 2011. I lost a lot of money... lol

I agree.

IMO Gambling and poker websites are perfect examples of good usage of bitcoin. Most governments want to control all gambling/poker websites (like USA banning all pokersites including freezing millions of peoples money.) Bitcoin gives us the freedom to just have that fun (and job for some better poker players.)

Ponzi's are obviously just a scam. Most threads even imply "guaranteed payouts" and call it "investments" (investing in what? lol)
Quote
A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to its investors from existing capital or new capital paid by new investors, rather than from profit earned by the individual or organization running the operation.
Quote
A high-yield investment program (HYIP) is a type of Ponzi scheme, an investment scam that promises unsustainably high return on investment by paying previous investors with the money invested by new investors.

Hoping to not get scammed is not gambling. If that would be the case then "newbies buying bitcoin for PayPal" should be also in the Gambling section, because maybe you will get your money and maybe you will be scammed.

I think the "Gambling" section was a decent presentation of the gambling websites in the bitcoin community. But when the list includes so many sketchy ponzi schemes it is just embarrassing the whole bitcoin gambling scene.

I do like freedom and if idiots do want to join ponzi schemes that is ok, but better in a different forum.

AGreed, please move them to games and rounds (even though I think they should basically be not allowed).  In any case they shouldn't be in gambling, it's making it impossible for "regular" sites to have threads and get activity.

I do think the Ponzis should have a sub-board in the gambling section. Put a warning saying "SITES MAY SCAM! BE CAUTIOUS!" on it for Newbies.

Only may be? I'd advise stating that it's more than likely a scam or that it's very probable that you'll lose money.

regardless of the content of the ponzis, they are breaking the "one site per thread" rule by copy-pasting the scams to new domains almost daily.

I'm all for "games and rounds" housing them all for now also if making a new sub is too hard.

That's only if the same owner has posted the same site right? If someone makes a thread to discuss about the thread does that count?

Hmm... I did not notice that! If it's truly the case that they are buying a domain just to bypass the uniqueness rule, then clearly they are violating that rule. I'll look into this.

I dunno how dishostest these ponzis are being, but recently Seals has been hacked at least once. A couple nights ago I tried Seals ring games for the first time in a while and they were dead.

Only so much of this degregation in the Bitcoin gambling scene (because Seals WAS the center) is embarassing.

A lot of ponzi threads have sockpuppet newbie accounts talking to each other, sharing their "payment proof". This can be very misleading.

I think the majority use sock puppet accounts to get the ball rolling and to try provide some "proof" that they actually pay out.

A lot of ponzi threads have sockpuppet newbie accounts talking to each other, sharing their "payment proof". This can be very misleading.

I think the majority use sock puppet accounts to get the ball rolling and to try provide some "proof" that they actually pay out.

I can confirm that some pay to the end, some pay at first then sca.m (bit4max), almost all stop after 20, 30, 50 or 100 deposits

I'm sure there are a handful that are honest and intend to pay out as long as they can, but most will usually take the money and run at some point, especially when it looks like it's going to fail soon.

Honestly it's really out of hand. The problem is that a ponzi might run for like 10 idiots "investments" and after that no one makes a depo so the owner can run with the money. Then he will have to make a new website/account to keep running his ponzi schemes. Since he has to make a new site every few days he will use free hosting sites.

1) Can you guys at least make a new forum for it? Just call it Ponzi/HYIP?

2) Also could there be a requirement that a Gambling topic at least need an own domain name? No free sub-domain / hosting? That would clear 90% of them and especially the ones that are even scamming and spamming extra hard (not giving any money back.)

I will be happy to report them (like I am reporting others topics too) but the rules are not completely clear for me. At this point I am only reporting them if they don't have a website at all.

It's always the same reason: greed. People need to realise get rich quick schemes are usually always lose money fast schemes. People also need to learn if it's too good to be true then it probably is rule.

Half of the offers on the Securities board are Ponzis. A separate Ponzi board will create a false sense of safety.

EDIT Or no wait:

Well I doubt admin will do anything, but I will start giving Negative trust to them with a "Possible Scam" Note.
If anyone have problem with that please let me know.

It's bitcointalk.org not ponzitalk or hyiptalk.

Nobody can stop you, and it's probably a good idea to be honest.

I think as long as they announce it is a ponzi, it is ok... Perhaps segregating them to a another section, or pushing them to games and rounds...

One thing I've learned through this mtgox scandal is that people are so freaking greedy. Ponzi has to look obviously too good to be true for outsiders but they still throw money at it and are surprised when it fails. Gamble awayyyyyy

Some "work", for a time

Look at ponzi120 or ponzicoin, they got 445BTC and 115BTC of deposits, a guy deposited 64BTC and got 13BTC profit; makebtc reached 100BTC of deposits as well, the owner is taking 5% on every withdrawals so he is making some good money; he most certainly deposited early on as well

Obviously for 2 like those that "work" there are 20 that stop after 2 or 3 days and 60 that sc.am or never really pick up

Yeah you are right, there ponzi schemes should be deleted and new ones should not be allowed. They are just conning people out of their money. Yes they should know it's a ponzi scheme and should not enter in the first place.

A lot of people lose money trying to buy goods on the marketplace too, but we shouldn't ban selling items now. Bottom line is don't send your money to scammers or get rich quick schemes.

More than 50% Ponzi now..

Some don't even have a website (I have reported them but not yet moved to "Games and rounds"), most have a site with free hosting / sub domain that can be made in 5 minutes. Shame the forum is full of these shit sites.

Most of these meet the notability requirements, so I now completely agree that a new section is needed.

Creating a extra sub-forum just for ponzi's could be a good idea I never thought of that.
Where do I sign?
I wouldn't count it as 'gambling' more than trading with someone is gambling just cause there's a risk that you lose your money.
And yeah there are waaay too many in the forum section, mainly cause I guess most of them don't last that long, and many are just scams.

The continued presence of all of these is quite disturbing, although I see half of them are being moved to games/rounds.

Most of them are, but at least if they were in their own separate section with a warning about the high likelihood of deals being a scam, if newbs did get scammed after investing it would be their own fault. I think if they were in their own section most people would just stay out of it and they'd die off eventually.
