Just a question,
What is this report badges for? Does it affect the ranking system? If yes, Iam sure that lots of user will do reporting excessively even if the reported replies is useful for everyone.

What are the consequences if you do not maintain the report counts?

I think it's just to display how many reports someone has done, and i don't think you really get any other benefits from it..

So no, it shouldn't affect the ranking system, and i don't think that there are any "consequences" for not reporting any posts.

There might be some campaigns that'll pay more if you have made more reports, but i kind of doubt that though.

It's a way of showing appreciation for reporting. Not only that, but certain individuals are motivated by status gain, and badges are a way of motivating these individuals to report more. Its exactly the reason why online courses use badges as a reward. It might sound a little silly if you don't care too much about status, and others perception of you. But, some people do.

            = Recruit reporter (300 Good Reports)

       = Novice reporter (500 Good Reports)

  = Special agent (1000 Good Reports)

  = Detective (2000 Good Reports)

Stars are fine, and Flying Hellfish of the mushroom cloud is an interesting one. However, I would personally refrain from using any types of ticks for the badge. How about a white hat or something?

I personally don't like the "cop" theme (I don't want to be seen as a cop hehe).  I also think we can come up with something more unique than check marks or badges or stars (no offense intended).

Fedora, white hat, top hat is pretty good.  But I think something that other forums don't have would be cooler!

Maybe the mushroom cloud could be black for 300, half red for 1k and full red for 5k!

Simple but meaningful,   I'd like the idea of Silent26 and also the idea of BTCforJoe, either which of these two badges it's looks like great IMO. They are a really good graphic designer for making badges and also waiting for other too.

Yeah, the cop theme is so so. Although, I wouldn't mind it too much. I'm not sure what other forums use, because believe it or not this is one of the only forums that I used regularly. I guess the fedora hat would be a popular one.

I do like the mushroom cloud idea though. Even, if its just a colored version at 5k reports.

The whole reporter badge idea has nothing to do with "verifying" an account. This will only help scammers who want to impersonate someone else.

A little explosion for 300 a slightly bigger explosion/smaller mushroom cloud (or maybe diff colour idk) for 1k.

I like the nuke idea, although not all reporting leads to nuking and thus it may be slightly focused on one of the possible outcomes of reporting. I thought about a “fuck you” finger icon, laughed at the idea for a minute, and then saw it too offensive to be sustainable really.

I then went over to reviewing Greek Gods, to see if any would fit. Ares was the God of War, and by title seemed fit. Nevertheless, he is often described as a coward, often suffering some kind of humiliation, and was not really worshipped to a large extent in ancient Greece.

On the other hand, Zeus, his father, seems a much better candidate. Zeus was the supreme God and ruled Mount Olympus. As such, he was revered by all and was described as a God who brought peace in a place of violence. He also maintained moral and justice and was also known as “Polieos” for overseeing the Polis (city).

His symbol is lightning, so either an icon with lightning in different colours could be used (i.e. yellow, orange, red) or an array of red lightning icons repeated from 1 to three times.

Note: My memory lags a bit on Greek Gods, so I has to check the facts on http://greekgodsandgoddesses.net/gods/zeus/.

Edit: The idea would be something like , playing with the colors for each report rank. Unfortunately, being colorblind makes colors a bit of a challenge for me.

No, it's probably just a badge to reward reporting. I wouldn't be against it having some extra privilidges though, but nothing too extravagant nor should it be used to bypass ranks.

I like the military chevrons. Maybe instead of the same but different colours you could just get an additional chevron each time you move up a rank like I believe they do in the military. Ie one chevron for 300 good reports, two chevrons for 1000 etc. More could easily be added as needed as well.

Somehow similar to Stars but these are badges.

I would of said I liked this, but the mushroom clouds linked above are just too good to pass up on I think. At the very least I would like to see the mushroom cloud as one of the higher up icons. Maybe, add another one at 10,000 or something insane like 100k. I'm sure a few years from now we'll see users hitting that...

theymos maybe have added the badge as a feature in order to encourage other members on reporting what they believe is a bad or abusive posts and not discourage them by having these kinds of badges. Some members might just actually avoid reporting bad posts if this kind of Bad Reports Badge will be implemented as they know that their is a chance that a moderator will deny your reported posts.
