Agreed!!!! Another one of those achievements you can have and be proud of here in the forum. Having that badge and showing off you are contributing in the forum by cleaning up some worthless garbage is some of the goals you can have here, the big benefactors here are the ones who have already been cleaning and reporting posts even without this kind of appreciation to begin with.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing to see a community pull together, and actively dedicate hours of their time to report. I'm a big fan of rewarding these select few that have dedicated their time, and I think a badge is probably the best way to go about it.

If you hadn't said that that was a police hat, I wouldn't have known what it was. Unfortunately, it's hard to depict an object with that much detail within 16 pixels.

Regarding the counter issue, you could solve it by creating a 'title' tag with the amount of valid reports that were made. The number of results can be displayed when rolling over the icon, such as in the following mockup:

Theymos it's a great idea, I think it will motivate people (and make moderators tired lol) to report more spam and clean some threads like "bitcoin ruined my nephew's life" and etc.

Your image, idea of showing badge this way is great, it makes more sense to choose best one. But to be fair badge isn't good one, it's very simple and colour doesn't suit forum's template too.
I'll try to find some good ones today or tomorrow...

It's hard trying to choose a graphic or icon type to use to depict reporting. I do like the chevrons, but I'm not a fan of using such military-based images. The hats and detective idea is good. And I do like the lightning bolts. But everything else to me is kind of "meh", imo.

Alright, I like the handshake icons a lot. That might be a more friendly icon than the nuke icon. Shaking hands could represent a few things too such as saying thanks, but also helping each other out. Nice one BTCforJoe.

I did just notice, however, that the gold solid handshake icon is hard to interpret if you don't already know that it's a handshake. I might use the regular icon to depict the granddaddy icon:

I like this one most: it's simple and elegant. As much as I like getting Newbies nuked, this looks much friendlier.
It could even be extended in the future. For example:

I am not really a designer, but I love the idea.
It could be taken as a profile status symbol and would reduce a lot of nonsense posts and topics. On the contrary it wont help the moderators but I guess it will make there Job a little more challenging to review additional 100s to 1000s of reported posts/topics.

For the original purpose, my favorites are:

I suspect that it will always be difficult to know what any mushroom cloud icon is if you don't already know, though.

I'll probably add it next week sometime. The icon can be changed easily either before or after it becomes public, though, so additional suggestions are welcome.

BTW, currently 195 users would have some icon, and only 9 users would have the highest-tier one.

That's great, but when reaching a certain milestone it will be good if some extra tools are unlocked, in the same manner as the Report History.
Like for instance, exclusive reporters can see the ban history of an account for example,or some more tools that can make the reporting more efficient, report button from the the user profile, report button in the search results, number of bad reports of user being reported, small icon to indicate if a post is already reported to the mods so we skip the multiple reports, etc.

You could give them for high levels of merit. Maybe a badge for 2000 merit and every thousand after that etc. I think high merited users should get some sort of badge/acknowledgement, especially since they're worthwhile contributors and it's very hard to game. There's no real benefit to merit once you get 1000 to become Legendary either.

Have you thought about adding some sort of privileges that come along with it? Nothing too amazing, but how about something like a bigger personal text or the ability to have a clickable link there? I've always thought that would be useful. Maybe a custom title? Editable or not. I think with having some sort of added benefits it would help the forum by encouraging users to report and everyone benefits.

I wouldn't be against that, but I think just turning their rank to Banned or it being under their rank would be better. It's annoying when users sometimes report an already banned member for copy and pasting etc.

Yeah, I agree. It's really difficult to determine if the owner of the post that I'm reporting is already banned or not. Maybe a simple badge or any sign needs to be shown up in their profile so that we reporters can be able to determine already banned accounts. It would save a lot of time, we will just need to past banned accounts and focus more on existing unbanned accounts.

Correlated to the report badge topic, it would be nice to have general aggregated report statistics alongside the general forum statistics.  A list of top reporters could be another feature, but we’ve seen members comment that they would not like to see a report badge on their profile so showing up on a list would not be to their likes either and may act as a deterrent for reporting in some cases.

General statistics on reporting could:
-   Show how the overall reporting effort pays off.
-   May act as an incentive to reporting (alongside the badge concept).
-   May act (wishful thinking here) as a discouragement for spammers.

It could be generalized, and not show specific users, but the amount of reports that are being made site wide or for specific sections per day. Yes, that would be the idea. After all, this is teamwork and besides knowing who the team stars are, it would be great to know how the team performs overall.
