I was thinking along the lines of "tally marks", so maybe just a few scratches on the wall, 5 for lowest rank, 3x5 for highest rank.

I'm not good at producing graphics at all, so I'll just link a picture to show what I mean, this is most likely copyrighted etc., so I don't suggest we use it, but somebody should take the idea further.

This could be a cool thing to do, and is easy to add up to in the future when more people have higher amounts of good reports. You could award 1 mark per 1000 or something. I doubt too many people are going to have high amounts which would lead to it looking unsightly.

My fruits of communicating with Photoshop.

While creating this I tried to examine what we (I mean the reporters) are actually here for and what we do. Here're some thoughts (and their graphic embodiments).

1. We are here to prevent, hold back and observe.
(but not to punish; that's why I don't think that stuff like nuke mushrooms or ninja shurikens would fit it; though things like flowers and clover would be too soft)



The eye on the hand. This has two versions: simple and "evolution" one.
Evolution is more interesting in my opinion: it not only changes the color, but also gradually "opens" the eye.
I thought that blue would be better for the second stage.

The "evolution" sequence:
for 300 good reports;
for 1000 good reports;
for 5000 good reports.

The simple sequence:
for 300 good reports;
for 1000 good reports;
for 5000 good reports.


2. We keep a hand on the pulse of the community.

for 5000 good reports.


Also I drew these guys (imagining reporters invisible like ghosts or something similar).



They're two though. I made the blue one also (for the second stage most likely), but didn't complete it. In fact it's not obvious that these are ghosts when they're small. The sequence is following currently:

I actually think that would work pretty well and also be hilarious.
Maybe start with Pacman and you get more "blue ghosts", running from him for more reports
So, top rank would look like Pacman chasing all 4 ghosts.

Edit: also, Pacman would blend in very well with the coins...

If this new feature admin theymos planning to add in the forum,   for sure there will be plethoras of analytical and statistical report of people who is good in reporting in different kind of section especially on local boards.

I think that I'm going to add some badges for people who report a bunch of posts. Maybe one for 300 good reports, one of 1000, and one for 5000.

BTW, could you post a list of "top reporters" and their report count?
Preferrably along with reports per year or something.

I believe rank levels should reflect past experiences.
In the end, all top reporters of today should receive top rank right from the start.
Top rank should at the same time be realistically achievable within two years or so.
300 is certainly a good starting point, but I somehow doubt that 1000 and 5000 are wise.
I guess that someone dedicated enough could easily make a few hundred per day.
Maybe even some algorithm like activity would be appropriate.

Edit: OTOH, the ghosts could also have the four original colors: red, pink, cyan, orange...
Maybe make them blue when the user has reported within the last 24 hours or something.

The colors signifies the Philippine Flag, if it is going to be used it will symbolize as a contribution not just by me but also from the Filipino People. I know there is a long journey for us to change the minds of those people whom they considered Filipinos as shitposter because of the history: shitposter plague. However, there are Filipino (Community Members) Lawyers, Doctors, Bank Branch Head, Stockbrokers, developers, DJ, Artist, Professors, and those Students (who needs to sustain their daily needs to continue their studies), that really contributes to our community as a whole. I can see some lights to these changes that I want for Filipino members, our local board needs more cleaning to do, thru your idea on the badge, it will create more reporters that will help clean not just our local board, but also, the whole bitcointalk. Appreciate those members who reported shit posts even without any badge.

I continue to see more Filipino contributors now, I maybe one light, but, it will continue to burn the desire for a change. Change is coming.

That would be great. I love suggesting badges as I'm doing something new again but I really love those chevrons. If it's not implemented in report badge maybe we should apply it for members who received lot of Merits as a badge of honor. I wish to see those chevrons in my profile if I will be lucky to have one.

About its color, I truly support the idea of it signifies our Flag. The Blue badge which is the first badge that will be achieved signifies "truth, peace and justice" which our forum desires. The Red one which will be the second tier signifies "Valor" which is the attitude of our good reporters and the yellow one which will be the final tier, since the Yellow symbolised Philippines islands and provinces, I prefer that it signifies "Achievement"

I do kind of like this tally mark idea. Maybe a tally mark for each 100 valid reports submitted, and then introduce a special icon once 1,000+ reports are made? The color of the icon can symbolize whether it's 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000+ reports?

I do also like the star badges to coincide with the existing themes.

Maybe you can consider this and just edit how many stars they have.

After  a quick glance through the responses, I like the pacman one. But would it result in legal problems related to copyright ?
