It's odd how it takes gox a week to deploy a fix for a problem that it supposedly found and other exchanges fix this problem within a couple days. The last couple updates did happen around 7pm. Probably around the time they leave the office so they don't have to deal with all the backlash lol.

I keep mentioning this but Andreas said that the Gox code was so bad that it could take them 2-4 weeks to update. I think many people underestimate how poorly their code was developed, thus causing updates to take many times longer than other exchanges. We just all default to assume its an easy fix.

I think most people would be patient with code issues and be willing to wait for 2-4 weeks for withdrawals if they felt confident that the cash and coins were indeed there and would be available.  Gox has not been transparent and has left everyone feeling uneasy which is what caused such panic.

it takes like 2 weeks to just download the blockchain from scratch...

These are the horrors of bitcoin. So damned easy to lose.

o.O

I make multiple backups of wallets before I even fund them...

Bitcoins have to be the easiest asset to protect, I can make as many copies as I want! I wish I could do that with my car.

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins.

That's odd, it takes me under two days from a clean install.

It used to take a long time, back in early 2013. The reference client used some terrible flat file database system and it was basically disk I/O bound trying to download and validate transactions. The newer version switched to a different database type that is considerably faster, and typically network bound.

Mt gox's custom client adds a loading queue and transaction malleability causes slowness and the bitcoin coders buggy software causes problems causing 2 week delays... or something like that

Dude, das racist.

Unlevereged financial instruments acting as a store of value that fluctuate 50% within 10 minutes is perfectly acceptable. I think it should be offered in IRA form to soon to be retirees.

The blockchain has grown alot and is quickly approaching 20GB last time I downloaded it from scratch it took 5 days. The bitcoin qt is just slow I found it much faster just to use the torrent and have everything downloaded in less then 1 hour.

Nuts - Maybe
Stupid - probably
Brave - Absolutely

I know if I had a couple of $K kicking around that I could afford to loose I would take the chance.

There is opportunity, that does not come about often.  Grin

More like 30 minutes if you download the torrent.
