Usually the value comes from you, the investors who pump some new money into it. and deflation comes when you, the investors cash out

They are dependent on the amount of money that is being traded with the coins. If the amount of money that is being put into the coin goes up then the price of the coin does go up accordingly. That is where the jumps come from. From the amount that people are pumping into the coin or dumping out of it.
