In my opinion, do not set yourself a goal to get merit. Set a goal-to help people and make the forum better.
Then the goals will be achieved and merit will be a pleasant addition.

Not just for newbies but for everyone.
Smerit is the one to give to the people who post constructive and informative.
but now only selected people are getting Smerits.

Is Smerit the same as Merit?

How does it work, when you earn them, do you technically loose them for giving away to someone else?

Lots of patience is needed for earning merits. The criteria is quite simple. We just have to keep focusing on providing informative and good post. And also helping people with giving solutions.

Grin Since they release this new ranking system, the price of forum's account increase a lot. I thought this is not the end for the forum, but the new beginning !

Try to enrich the forum by giving as much information and solutions as you can. It will start to increase the merits. Don't worry if you are dedicated you may get a good rank fast.

When your post receives x merit, you receive x/2 smerit (spendable merit). You can use smerit to merit other peoples posts and it doesnt affect your merit score.

I think it necessary because merit make a quality member. A forum can’t have a good develop if member can spam and make low quality post then get merit. It will motivate member develop their knowledge in truly way.

The system should work out a way to give out merit to those that merit it. Doing this will help to set things smoothly instead if thinking of other means of achieving it.

Agree. I’ve given up on it and try to focus on something more constructive, like learning the basics of Blockchain and crypto economy.

it is has always been like that in every forum. Newbies are left with nothing but getting there comments deleted and warning.
these days every project seems to register on BITCOINTALK. yet admins here will ban accounts with signature calling them spam while most them has signatures attached to there profile.. i found it difficult to understand why
Newbies are not allowed to expressed them selves. i  believed that there was a time this forum was pleading for  members.
Now that it is famous, it has chosen to punish new members unnecessary leaving them with no choice than kick them out whenever they made mistakes.
