I did this excercise myself just 3 weeks ago and picked a sample of the quality coins from the top 50 on coinmarketcap. ADA, EOS, OMG, XLM, XRP and WAN so far am up between 30% and 100% but I think it was pretty much guaranteed to move up after the last dip.

yes I agree with you, investing in bitcoin will at least reduce the losses you get, the price of bitcoin is always stable and will not go far down, but if you want to have big profits, you have to hold it and be patient for now.
