Guys,

I see that U.S. is about to kill DNSSEC with Protect IP Act...

Don't you guys think that NOW is time to mine for NameCoins and forget about "old" DNS in the future?!

Cheers!

From what I gather from the forums here, NameCoin is not a profitable coin overall, and it wasn't intended to be as such by design anyways, and also it is not nearly as safe and secure as SolidCoin, is this correct?

Please provide as much information to back up your claims as possible, thanks!

Almost everyone will mine for Namecoins.
Slush Pool (and some smaller ones) already implemented "merged mining" and others will follow soon.

At a technical level, nonauthoritative domain name servers would be ordered to take technically feasible and reasonable steps to prevent the domain name from resolving to the IP address of a website that have been found by the court to be “dedicated to infringing activities.”

Complete bullshit... I see a wave of p2p software bundling a local DNS server, no issues as long as you go straight to the root servers and bypass ISP DNS.

What or who is a smoothie?  I know I have seen that named mentioned before, but I honestly have no clue who he or she is off the top of my head and I prefer not to search until after I make the post, I like testing my memory.

Edit:  I only kind of remember smoothie https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=25960;sa=showPosts    I'm guessing just started using a different user name at that point.

Also, what happened to OldMiner, did that person end up being another user or did these forums just annoy him too much?

SolidCoin comment was a joke.

The NameCoin profit thing, I wish I could find a specific link, but I swear I hear that echoed around when I see NameCoin mentioned.  Not that it couldn't function as a currency, but it wasn't the initial intention, of course the word "Coin" is in the name, but still.  If this is true, I wonder what the pros and cons of taking something established and making a currency around it.

The US is doing what?? If true that's beyond insane.

DNS as implemented is a total clusterfuck, it badly needs to be replaced with something that isn't wide open to government abuse and domain trolling. I'm not sure namecoin is the answer as it does nothing for the domain trolling problem.

Alternate DNS roots have been tried countless times and have always failed. But then they were all just copies of the old model with a different dictator at the top.

Even the most retarded ISP could block port 53 udp/tcp to everything but its own DNS servers.

Besides everyone using the root servers like that would increase load on them significantly and destroy caching throughout the system.

Peer to peer is the only real solution to the DNS problem.
