As we all can see, spamming is one of our problems here in this forum, that is why the moderators came up with a precaution called "MERIT SYSTEM",to encourage all of us to make quality post, but it seems that it is not that effective because for sure others are just ignoring this since they could still post and join bounty with their current ranks, BUT THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE, SO HEAR ME OUT GUYS.

TO AVOID SPAMMING WE SHOULD HAVE:

1. UNITY and COOPERATION

- This is the number one thing that we should consider for us to avoid spam post or spamming this forum. We are all getting benefits here in this forum, so it is our responsibility to take care of this forum, we should stick to the rules that is given to us, we should obey and we don't need to be a hard headed member on this forum ignoring the important things and just keep on spamming.

2. to become AWARE
- before posting a certain topic, make sure to have a research first to know that the topic that you are going to post is not yet posted, because there is a lot of topics that has been created in different threads which are all related, for me that is spamming.

3. to be UPDATED

- it must be a routine for you to stay updated on what is happening in the forum, because if you are, I'm sure you do have a lot of knowledge that is worth to be share and not just inventing random things to post on a thread.

The people who are most likely reading this aren't spammers.  If someone is a spammer, they're not even going to see this thread.  If they do see it, they probably won't or can't read it.  Either way, this isn't useful information.  Seems more like a merit-grab attempt from someone who, although he's a senior member, has yet to earn any merits.

I'm not saying OP is a spammer at all, just that this info is kind of obvious stuff and won't reach the people it should reach.  What is true is that OP could be earning more as a Legendary in a sig campaign if he had the merits to rank up.  Maybe I've gotten too cynical.

Edit:  OP, I don't know why you merited me.  Give it to a lower-ranked member if they're deserving of it.  However, I pretty much did that anyway.  Some of Bardman's posts are pretty good and he seems to be under-merited.

No. You have always been cynical up to 11.
You know, I still have This is Spinal Tap on VHS, which I occasionally watch.

No any spammer are going to read your thread. Still now only 31 people read this thread. What's you describe really nothing new. Every board have a sticked post about rules. But none spammer reading that. Spammer are busy with spaming so how he/she will read a good post. Do you know many people reply on the thread without reading post ? They just read the subject  Grin. We can just report spammer post, may be it will reduce some spam. Because if any one got 3 valid report he/she will ban from forum. So let's report spammer post.

As the Pharmacist quite rightly said, spammers wont be reading this as they will be doing what they do best...spamming!

On how to avoid spamming, i think people who join this place with the sole intention of spamming should be booted out of here or go through a probationary period to prove their worthiness here. This forum is littered with spam unfortunately and the only way to stop it is to put a stop to the people/bots who are ruining it for the genuine folk.

You should post this in the Beginners and Help, if you are truly trying to reach new users who may unintentionally spam the forum. It could be useful to the 1-3% of spammers.

Those are the only people that will benefit from this. Unfortunately there are very few unintentional spammers.

My guess is most of them come here hammer out there 5-10 posts per account(s) everyday of the week, trying to hide them in spam megathreads to "earn" their weekly paycheck.

Green = generous guess

To be honest, I didnt read all of your post because I know that spamming here is not that easy to remove and what you said is like a fantasy in the making especially the first one.

Spamming is like a virus here that is being spread already or maybe like corruption that can't destroy.

Anyway, nice try OP. Maybe you should move this to beginners and help since most people who are posting in Meta are probably not spammers Cheesy.

I also noticed that spammers have evolved as well.

Of course the usual bounty hunters, but we used to hunt spammers doing copy-and-paste, but seems progress from using homographs attacks, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2977866 to using spinning software or bots.

I guess the only weapon we have is a collective effort to report those shitposters/spammers so that appropriate actions could be taken.

The Pharmacist is probably right that the ones reading your thread are not spammers. And the real spammers by now should have get it by themselves this time because for sure a lot of their posts got deleted by mods. And the real persons who are not bots might have probably Googled a guide on how to stop spamming by now but they still fail to do so. But even after they read this guide I don't think it will help a lot as one of the most important step is they need to follow which I think they cannot do. Most spammers I see in the forum really do not change as they really don't have the motivation to change for the better.

The thing is the users that do spam don't care that they are spamming. They all have their own motives for spamming, but the majority are to get paid. They don't really care about their accounts too much, because its simple enough to just make a new account, and spam with that.

So, telling spammers how to avoid spamming isn't going to do an awful lot.

This is something some older users should read, amount of spamm is getting bigger and bigger every day. What I most noticed is that most users read only the title and first or last post in thread, and this is not only characteristic to lower ranks as some may think.

For example just look at this thread , it was attempt of OP to see how many people actually read anything else except title and first post, some 80% just post without read second post to realize OP is make joke with them. It is like this in most of threads, people do not want to read, or they just ignore what's written.

I'm not saying OP is a spammer at all,......

Me too, it is just that I couldn't help but have a look at his post history, and I find him having some issues himself which he needs to see first before offering help or suggestions to others. The biggest thing I noticed was that most of the times he quotes a lot of nested replies to just reply to the last one of them, which usually newbies do when they start posting. He, being a Hero member, should at least know that is not appropriate. Other than that, he seems to get into a lot of mega spam threads, mainly in Gambling section, which is what spammers do to increase their post count for signature campaigns.

Colleagues, any problem is very simple to solve if you find its source.

Where does spam come from?
We still have sales of accounts and this is not prohibited by anyone.
A lot of advertising managers register dozens of accounts to fake the activity around shitty ICO.
The Signature Campaign require from participants up to 60 posts a week.

What in the end?

Professionals (miners, traders, lawyers) go to more specialized forums and our forum turns into a garbage dump for advertising ICO.
We all understand that the forum needs traffic and user activity, but not the same methods.
At least prohibit the sale of accounts and enter more stringent rules for publishing projects to reduce the amount of spam.

There is one thing that remains a question for me is whether they (spammers) know the definition spam post and forum spam. If there is a newbie who doesn't know what it means and lazy to read a pinned post, maybe they can understand this first:

It doesn't matter if they know what spam is or not. I'm pretty sure they do mind you. However, the users that are spamming for campaigns or what ever other motives they might have usually aren't the ones to care about the state of the forum. They care about getting paid or bumping their service to earn more money.

I don't think the spammers actually read the rules or care about actively trying to improve their post quality.

They tend to spam due to signature campaign requirements, so it might just be best to have an option to automatically mute anybody who has more than 50% of their posts in the bounty section. Seems harsh, but I bet it would work.

It wouldn't. They would spam other sections even more to get below the 50% threshold.

Between spamming and trolling, which one better fits what OP is writing about?

In my opinion, spamming is relative. Relative in the sense that our judgement of what constitutes spamming is subjective. Besides, there are two types of posts on this forum. 1. Post for activity and 2. post for merit.

It will be absurd to think that all or rather every post should be that quality that could attract merit.

Your content can't acquire the real viewers of this kind of facts. Spammers are bounty hunters and those persons are just concern with the profit they will gain here, they're probably in altcoin discussions.

For some, it's a good idea to share and I really appreciate your topic but your target viewers are not here. I think you should post it to your local to "help first" your fellow citizen. Before we can start unity here in an international section you should be confident also that your local board is united even though we're having unity and cooperation through discussion but it should add a little more community building.

And I think they're not affected on this 'cause they don't really care in their local and specially to this kind of post. The way we can stop them is to report and have a daily check to all of the shitposters, I'm surely moderators will check and delete it if they're really shitposting in the forum.

I tried this a long time ago, sharing facts about the forum rules and the things we must not do but it end up nothing, some people appreciated and applied the things I shared but most of them stil spamming non-sense replies.

There is one thing that remains a question for me is whether they (spammers) know the definition spam post and forum spam. If there is a newbie who doesn't know what it means and lazy to read a pinned post, maybe they can understand this first:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_spam
It doesn't matter if they know what spam is or not. I'm pretty sure they do mind you. However, the users that are spamming for campaigns or what ever other motives they might have usually aren't the ones to care about the state of the forum. They care about getting paid or bumping their service to earn more money.
I just tried to positive think for them, I hope they can change a mindset against this forum not just how to get money but give a positive contribution. Regardless of their participation in the sig camp in order to make their lives better or indeed, they do not have a profession in real life. I don't blame them because this forum does provide a place for that. If they continue to hold on to their mindset, in the end, they get punished for being banned, bullied, and never get merit from anyone unless there is a transaction in a "dark room."

I consider that such a problem exists, but in general, it can be ignored. While moderators will not create the 100% criteria for determining spam nothing will change.
Moreover It is necessary to approve the practice of reporting repetitions in topics and flooding. I mean more often use a button "Report to moderator" and explain your opinion.

I really doubt that they will change their minds. They even found a way to exploit the merit system, so it means they wouldn't change a bit and they are getting bigger by the numbers. So its gonna be a ongoing battle and the funny thing is, if they got caught and banned, they will make a thread a Meta and play the innocent role and reason out that they don't know that its against the rule.. blah blah.. Do you really think that spammers would mind reading this thread? Or they may be so they will know what to do to hide their spamming activities and thanks to your idea.

They actually don't care about the forum primarily that is the reason why the management or any concerned users are using the hard way to prevent spamming this include (banning, nuking etc.) and gues what they will just create more accounts then try to bypass the current system like merits

2. Read, Familiarize / Memorize / Understand the Forum Rules.

3. Ignore this Sections : Beginners & Help, Off-Topic, Politics & Society, Altcoin Discussion, Bitcoin Discussion, Ivory Tower, and Economics.

4. Moving this thread to Guide Forum Users in the Sections Listed in number 3.

5. LOCKING this thread after moving it to avoid unnecessary replies such as " Thank you Sir, "Great/ Nice Thread it will definitely help the members!", "Well said.", and other single / 2-3 liners posts.

This forum allows people to earn from signature campaigns and bounties - consider that as a privilege and a gift. Abuse of them would only lead to downgrading of the user's trust and overall reputation here. We have other pay-per-post type forums out in the internet but they are just places of spamming where admins have a hard time dealing with shitposters. At least this forum is not like that except the Altcoins section and Bitcoin Discussion sections.

There is no transaction in this so-called "dark" thing. All merit transfers are seen by public members of the forum. So stop making such assumptions without evidence.

I know that's, though some of merit history was removed, we can still see it on https://bpip.org/.

dark isn't the real meaning then I add (" "), especially for merit transactions, as I have explained above.

"dark room" is just an allusion to describe some cases merit transactions such as:

1. Probably found merit seller (and he is an merit abuser).

2. Mr and Mrs Creampie Cumshot merit spitballing

3. Merit Farming

4. Alts exchanging merits

5. etc..

but if your opinion that's an assumption with real meaning, it doesn't matter to me. everyone has a different perspective

There’s no way to block specific addresses from sending you money at the moment. The good news is that it you shouldn’t be worried to much about it either. Just ignore these messages and in time spammers will hopefully find this less efficient. If this really annoys you, you can just archive your current Bitcoin address and use a new one that hopefully the spammers aren’t aware of.
