When reading through different bitcoin boards, you'll notice that many people lost a lot of money recently.
Some people wrote that they've lost all their savings, some others even thousands of BTC thanks to mtgox.
Imagine Mark Karpeles is sitting in a mansion together with Kim Dotcom and they're sipping a 100 years old whiskey together.

I'm normally a funny person but this post isn't about fun at all. I'm also a victim as you are.
A two digit amount of BTC was stolen from me by Mark Karpeles this week. A friend of mine even lost a three digit amount of BTC.
While I noticed that many people lost a lot of money, I also realised that most of the people even lost their HOPE.
Are you really accepting this situation as it is and will allow Karpeles to stuff his bags with (your) money?
Oh, you were not a user of mtgox? Well, do you think that this couldn't happen to you on any other bitcoin exchange?

This is may not the ship Arcadia but people there is really help out there. I have a plan which requires more than a one man army.
You know if you're alone, you can't do much. Of course you can contact your lawyer try to get something out of the mtgox insolvency proceedings.
But to be honest. How much do you think you'll get at the end, if mtgox asserts that they've no funds left?
Don't you think that fighting evil forces require some kind of higher involvement? An organisation?
Exactly, that's what I want to build. An initiative called catch karpeles.

So the plan is to build a public fund and raise money for any actions which lead to the goals of this project.
Here is the rough plan:

1) Create a website where victims can submit their data, amount they've lost, screenshots/evidence like bank account transfer receipts etc.
2) Initiate a funding process and raise money to perform any activities in order to reach the project goals
3) Receive mandates from all participating victims in order that the organisation can protect their rights at international courts
4) Gather a team of the best available international lawyers, financial experts and investigators such as fbi/interpol (in case we have evidence for a criminal act)
5) Analyse all evidents, data, and indices in order to prepare any possible legal steps
6) Initiate legal steps against Mark Karpeles and mtgox
7) Initiate legal steps against all banks and institutions who helped mtgox raising funds and transferring money away from their bank accounts or are involved in money laundering for Karpeles
VIII) Once we have enough funds, we'll offer money to anyone who can provide evidence like database dump of mtgox, internal documents or witness statements etc.
(when people receive much money, they become unloyal Karpeles - you know this better than all of us)
9) Proof that mtgox was nerver hacked at all and Mark Karpeles is responsible for these kind of BTC loss
10) Find fiat/btc Karpeles is hiding somewhere and make sure these funds can be used for the procedure for declaring bankruptcy
GOAL 1) Make sure fair insolvency proceedings will take place and victims get as much money back as possible
GOAL 2) Make sure Karpeles can't disappear with the stolen money and change his identitiy etc (don't think you're safe just by changing your identity - we'll definitely catch you no matter what your name might be)
GOAL 3) Make sure Karpeles will leave his mansion and get forced to play the game "soap and shower" in JAIL (not to mention what would happen, if rich victims would catch Karpeles...)

Now it's your turn to move something. Please check whatever you can do to contribute to this project. We need developers, supporters, graphic designers, bloggers, multiplicators, lawyers, speakers, financial advisors, politicians, morticians, traders, traitors, interpreters and any other specialists who could help to archieve these goals.
Regarding the funding we can setup an account at a notary or even a governmental institution somewhere. I don't care about the institution where the money is gathered as long as the money is out of Karpeles' reach.
Fact is that we need to raise funds and work together to fight against this biggest fraud in Bitcoins history. Don't let Karpeles get away with our savings.
It's time do something. Project catchkarpeles is waiting for your support.

Thanks for your efforts!

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

This isn't the first time Mark Karperles has burned people and I feel your pain from past experience. Let's not forget about the "fake hack" of June 2011. I lost 1400 BTC in that round of MtGox mishaps as well did lots of people.

Exactly.  Mark secreted away 500k coins back in 2011.  And he made it seem like it was a hack.  But to intelligent computer-oriented people, we know it was a lie.  He simply saw an opportunity to sweep coins out of wallets, and blame it on 'terrorists'.  As I have said time and time again, the proof would be in the sheer # of coins that were stolen.  That intentionally-leaked password file wouldn't have allowed hackers in to every single account that wasn't salted.  They would have STILL needed to brute force each one.  And there was nowhere near enough time for that.  He used the password 'theft' as a cloak for his actions -- a ruse.

We don't have evidence that Mark stole the bitcoins, but we can punish the thieves, whoever they are:

Increase bitcoin money supply from 21 million to 21 billion, that would make all "old" bitcoins almost worthless, and we can start all over again.

You will never get consensus for this. Starting again is effectively an altcoin and nothing stops you from starting another altcoin now, except for network effects.

Now after filing bankruptcy the truth will come out, this guy is going nowhere, cheating in a bankruptcy means serious jail time and Japanese jails are not so nice.

Get the popcorn out and watch as Gox The Movie unfolds. The part about the magically disappering cold storage will be particularly interesting.

Truth is the new hatespeech.

Exactly. You would have to increase block reward, and the price of bitcoin would shoot down.

Yes, thats the point: the price of BTC goes down to $0.5 and we start all over again.

The mistake we did with bitcoin until now was it to let it trade so high. Bitcoin is still in experiment phase.
So let us show solidarity with MtGox victims and inflate away the thieves.

We don't have evidence that Mark stole the bitcoins

Nonsense.  It's just a matter of what you will permit to serve as evidence.  There is a prima facie case already -- motive, means, opportunity. As I said above, that 2011 'heist' was far more sloppy than this one.  He got better in his deceptions.  But at the same time, the MO is so similar -- right down to the anonymous release of misdirecting information...  Plus, as I said above, the proof would be the sheer % of non-salted accounts that were swept clean.  If it occurred as Karpeles suggested, there was not enough time to brute force them.  Not all of them.

Building a truly transparent and crowd sourced exchange with all the users being owners is the best chance of recovering the money.

It will be a great example to the world. All the news/media proclaiming the death of bitcoin because of GOX, will look like idiots.

Evidence is emerging to support the Mt.Gox hacking claims.

Mark Karpeles may have been an (incredibly) incompetent CEO, but at this point there's nothing that supports any intentional theft on his part.

He have been criminally negligent, but nothing really suggests criminal intent at this point.

It would be nice to see that it is only Carpeles's strategy to cover himself by such a noise about nonsense acts against him, his innocence etc. I do not believe in legal actions. I respect what Mr. Burges did as that kind of actions may only follow to make Karpeles resolve the problem. The OP's proposition is pretty crude.

Could you be more precise please? Who is lawyer? What exactly he is proposing? Is his proposition public? How much costs his service?

We know where at least $10M of the money is:

 - $5M somewhere in the U.S. justice dept coffers.

 - $5M in Peter Vessenes pocket via the aborted Coinlab deal a year ago.

An actual potentially workable plan would be to start there IMHO.

No matter what, I'd budget a fair number of years before seeing anything, and at the end what we do see will probably be a big nothing burger.  At least Vess should do OK.  Possession is 9/10'ths of of the law so they say.

Mark Karpeles may have been an (incredibly) incompetent CEO, but at this point there's nothing that supports any intentional theft on his part.
There is also nothing to support his claims of theft, except his own words, so far.

If he wants people to believe that then he is going to have to step through how it occurred using actual data from within MtGox, and try to find some way of making that externally verifiable to any degree at all.

Bearing in mind that last time he claimed that BTC500,000 had been stolen, the community did not get any such explanation.

I would think that any entity considering buying MtGox at this point would require this of him too. Unless they are as incompetent as he is.

The idea of flying to Japan to let the incompetent piece of shit, Karpeles, smell my baseball bat, is growing more and more. Japan has dark nights and corners- I'm pretty sure!
