These shitty scammers destroyed lives of thousands of people few months ago by stealing millions of dollars worth of poor Middle East and  Eastern European countries by playing their dirty "verification needed" game without any notice. I know noobs who had invested all the pennies they had earned so hard during years in this scammy exchange and they lost it overnight because they were Iranian, Ukrainian, Syrian, ... and had not access to US jurisdiction resources and were easy to beat victims.

I personally lost like 3 Eths during that scam, no worries, I'm fine now and I'll be around for a while and I have enough time for retaliation, but I know people who seriously suffered from this scam and never healed, I'll retaliate on their behalf as well. I promise.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I can't open you link on tweet. Is it my problem, because i try VPN and with out or you give wrong link? It's very serious statement. But we must understand, that every exchanges are not angels and can not work forever, especially in such highly sought after areas as crypto-currencies.

Ok then, check this one:
https://bitcoinist.com/winklevoss-gemini-exchanges-sro/

This is about Bittrex participation in a self-regulatory group apparently initiated by Winklevoss twins. But it is not the point, months ago this shitty exchange blocked and practically never released funds of thousands of users from Middle east, Eastern Europe, ... hypocritically asking for more verification.

People did whatever they have been told, no feedback. Bittrex never released the deposits, millions of dollars worth of crypto been seized by these  greedy bastards, no responsibility, no explanation, no warning, they just took the deposits and remained silent.

Cryptocurrency community never cared, after all it was not (mainly) about Chinese or South Koreans or Japanese or US citizens or western Europeans, it was about Iranians, Russians, Iraqis, Ukrainians, Slovakians, ... it was about my people and not theirs. Sad

Now, these thieves want to do self-regulation, it is disgusting, they should be put behind the bars.

I agree with you, even governments or even the police and the courts do nothing, One of the big problems of the crypto world is that exchange, cloud mining companies do not respect their customers. they create TOS only for their own benefit. They do not care about their customers and this is because they have become rich. see that when someone is poor and creates for example an exchange, that person comes here in bitcointalk and creates an ANN thread and the person is very active, but the day that the person becomes rich and has many clients that person stops coming to bitcointalk and begins to igonarar its clients. I wonder if in real life it would be possible for someone to steal millions of dollars and go unpunished? I think it would not be possible. so what they are creating is a joke

The correct link is https://twitter.com/BittrexExchange/status/1031556720311582720

I didn't lose anything the moment shittrex lost its mind and changed its TOS but I quickly stopped using the service because I'm not interested in an exchange that changes its mind from day to day and trolling users while replying to support tickets. There are plenty of other websites to use.

I'm Iranian. I have an amazingly stupid story with this scammers:

1- In May 2017, before signing up with them, I primarily sent an e-mail to their support. I disclosed my citizenship status and asked them officially whether I would have any problem if I choose going through their sign-up process or not as I used to become frustrated when US based exchanges apply discriminatory policies against me because of my nationality.

2- Few hours later they responded with something like :"No! we are cool with you and we have no intention to apply any sort of discriminations against guys like you, join and enjoy!"

3- I signed up and went through their enhanced verification process and started trading occasionally there.

4- During my experience with them I never used fiat paired trading and my volumes were just below $5 K, meanwhile I noticed some unusual patterns like occasional suspensions, removal of positions, rejecting transactions and losing trade opportunities, I even 1-2 times officially objected about such misbehaviours, but it was working for me anyway. I was able to make deposits and withdrawals  and I was using it for simple jobs not like a trader after all.

5- In October 2017, my account became disabled while I had like 3 ETH and fractions of other coins there. I sent them a support ticket.

6-A bot answered, ridiculously demanding  users to verify their accounts by supplying a selfie with their IDs or something. My account was already verified (in enhanced mode) and replied properly, no response!

6- After few days, I noticed they have blocked IPs originating from Iran! I was forced to use vpn to check my status. I tried to withdraw my deposits, not allowed, I went through their fucking verification procedure, nothing changed, ...

7- Words came out, thousands of people have been robbed by these criminals, almost any Iranian crypto trader I knew was targeted. I had a friend who was presented to crypto by me and I've recommended Bittrex to him. He lost all his savings in this story.
Months later he was found almost dead because of OD  Sad ... this event destroyed his life and his wife and children's lives forever.
Iranian young crypto community suffered heavily from this event and never healed properly.

It is now almost one year, my deposits are gone like millions of dollars worth deposits of other innocent people. There are Telegram groups, individuals, ... trying to get these bastards with little success.

One thing that bothers me more is how this greedy crypto community prefered to remain silent about this crime to avoid another Mt. Gox like impact and keep bubbling up trend instead. It is just disgusting man.

These exchange has no legal department and does not have physical desks, even government license they do not have, or at least most exchange has no license. Now let's see where is the physical address of bittrex?

Bittrex uses fake address as HQ

One thing always comes as a surprise: - The United States being so strict with cyber laws and laws in general, how come they let these scammers run free knowing there are thousands of customers with an accusation against them? Even if the targets weren't from the USA but still money is stolen and it's being regulated in the market. Is there a chance these scums would bribe the agents?

Trump administration is fucked up, tell them something about Middle East people while pretending to be a crusader or something, you get unlimited power to do whatever you want against them: Build residentials in their occupied lands, steal their money, discriminate racistly against them do whatever you wish to do. USA is a country that its president is a clown like Trump after all, corrupted billionaire specialized in two things: announcing bankruptcy and escalating anti-immigrant, anti-foreigner shits.

Another fucked up prize  goes with KYC/AML discourse and bureaucrats behind it:
Give them an excuse about the suspected money laundering activities of some of your users (that happened not to be US or European citizens or from other "good" countries) and tell them you are just blocking their accounts (WTF is "blocking" by the way, it is taking and stealing in plain language), you got another license.

The bigger surprise being: How did crypto media fail to cover this scandal properly?

I have a theory regarding this:
Bittrex committed this scam just in the days cryptos were surging, they needed the coins for their insider trading crimes, everybody knew it but they remained silent because at the time Bittrex was one of the biggest exchanges in the market and they just didn't wanted the market to get MtGox-ed, yes, these disgusting hypocrites prefered to cover Bittrex mess and let it to ripe poor people overseas.

Anyone scammed should spread the word. Post as many posts as possible about the scam all over the Internet.

The word is already spread and Bittrex is a well known scam exchange, thanks god. But I started this topic mostly for people like Winklevoss twins and other parties who apparently do not care about us and just look at the pockets and don't ask any question about with whose money they are filled.

..

For a second I thought Alia was back.

No one should keep coins in exchange.

Honestly, we give this advice to everyone but we end up doing the exact same thing. I know I do. Even though I should have learned from MtGox. But I think it's a psychological issue. The apparent safety net of a  'wallet' provided by an exchange is feeble and subjective at best.

I was a Bittrex customer for some years and never heard before about this scam. The first rule before opening an account on an exchange is searching about it but many people don't do it.

Good for you not being still a user of this shitchange. It is now like one year since they committed the robbery and it was boom time and the crypto community had little incentive to bold the situation. People were joining and bringing in money to crypto and the scammers in Bittrex knew that nobody wanted such a bad news to be whispered around and did it in a sophisticated way with very good timing and using a 'divide and conquer' strategy.
