TL;DR

Paying a forensic body language specialist money through a donation drive organized by a trusted community member to produce a professional high quality report about Mark Karpeles based on all available public videos of him with the aim to establish what his body language says, giving clues to his sincerity/insincerity.

---

I just got this idea, and will toss it out there to see what you all think.

I would be willing to contribute a small sum to be used as a reward for a professional that is a proven expert with a long term record, perhaps even somebody that regularly works as a contributor to law enforcement in cases where interpreting body language to determine the true intentions of a person.

Such a professional would be able to take into accounts special behaviors caused by certain psychological conditions (aspergers etc.) and would be able to provide a professional report based on available video material.

That would not be conclusive evidence either way, but it would be able to be used as a tool to bring weight to the case pointing to Mark Karpeles being possibly innocent and honest, or dishonest and guilty.

The rationale for this would be to bring one more element to the table helping us to make a more educated conclusion about the whole situation.

I do not know what an analysis like this would cost, but my idea is that the community could contribute with a small sum pr. individual after someone trusted in the community approached such a body language professional/firm to ask inquiry about such an assesment.

What the community could do

1. Contribute with a small amount each.
2. Provide all video material available, also video from his younger days.
3. Provide any insight you've got regarding him as a person that could help giving the investigator some background information.
4. Set it up with a trusted escrow through nanotube, gavin or some other community figure that we trust 100%, or it could even be entrusted two parties with a multi-sig setup (I never really looked into that, so doesn't know if it would be feasible.). Collection address given should be gpg-signed by the trusted entiti(es).
5. After the trusted party receives a quote from the investigative firm about how much it would approximately cost, the cost is made available, and the donation drive starts.
6. If the donation drive fails, the money will be donated to some charity, as that would probably be less work than sending it back to everyone that donated.

The final report - which should be finished within a reasonable short time frame would then be released in full to the public, which would add to the available information the community has about the case.

This is a serious proposal, so please treat it as such. I think this post gives an idea about the project, so please add to the value of it by giving suggestions, rather than nitpicking and attacking it. If you think it's a bad idea, that's okay - but I for one would love to see such a report.

Personally I pledge 0.1 BTC towards the cause, I know this is not much - but it is what I can afford. If 100 people donates 0.1 BTC, we will have 10 BTC towards the cause. Hopefully that would be enough, although I do not at all know what kind of costs are involved with work like this.

Obviously there's some amount of work involved with making this happen, and community members that helped with the cause would not be paid, but it would be for the greater benefit of the community.

The firm/investigator would need to have a proven track record, and it's better to pay a little bit more for somebody being an expert at this than paying somebody that is an amateur. To ensure this is done the right way, a candidate to perform the work would be evaluated by the community before the donation drive starts.

Also, it would be possible for anybody being a student of forensic body language analysis or something simular to do an analysis on their own time, and then give this to the community for free.

What's your thoughts about this?

If you think this is a good proposal, please write in this thread how much you would pledge to make this happen.

PS: Please realize that this is a serious proposal, and that every step should be taken to make this 100% legit.

I think he is definitely under the influence of some kind of stress/anxiety medication. He seems so placid and disconnected from the immensely serious situation. Just sitting there with a semi-smirk on his face. That's the kind of expression Valium gives you... IMO

I highly doubt that there is enough footage of him to get anything meaningful (though hired TV analysts will be happy to take your money and speculate anyway…). But let's fantasise for a moment that there is.

You discover that Karpeles is almost certainly a closet furry who spends the weekdays dressed as a lemur and the weekends sitting crying in his mother's wedding dress. On top of that you're told not to trust him, no not ever. Because of body language.

What have you now achieved? The speculation on whether he tells the truth or not will continue just the same regardless, and the info is of no use to anyone legal or finance-wise.

Just seems a bit of an odd way to spend money Smiley

I have a feeling that Mark has Asperger's syndrome and his body language may not be read properly by a body language specialist. The way he confronted that British protester was a very clear sign that he has Aspergers.

Yes, yes!  I'm sure this person will be able to decipher the private keys for the cold wallets by the twitching of Karp's nostril hairs.

He might need to factor in earlobe quivering for corroberation.

Now if we could get our hands on his toenail clippings, that would be a slam dunk.

The printing press heralded the end of the Dark Ages and made the Enlightenment possible, but it took another three centuries before any country managed to put freedom of the press beyond the reach of legislators.  So it may take a while before cryptocurrencies are free of the AML-NSA-KYC surveillance plague.

My interpretation of his body language:

He doesn't give a fuck, and he plans to walk away with enough money that he can pay private security to protect him for life and has already been in touch with Controlled Risks in the UK where he has hired 4 ex-SAS bodyguards.

All the people threatening yakuza and chopping his legs off are going to do nothing in the face of his security, Mark walks away a gajillionaire.

The end.

I highly doubt that there is enough footage of him to get anything meaningful (though hired TV analysts will be happy to take your money and speculate anyway…). But let's fantasise for a moment that there is.

The point would be that it would be possible to make a judgement as to his trustworthiness. I think a trained and experienced professional would be best able to judge that.

On top of that you're told not to trust him, no not ever. Because of body language.

What have you now achieved? The speculation on whether he tells the truth or not will continue just the same regardless, and the info is of no use to anyone legal or finance-wise.

Well, the investigation could be extended to include Roger Ver and Gonzague Gay-Bouchery for starters. the more datapoints we have the better informed are we.

It's already been established that Gonzague Gay-Bouchery is a liar, and Mark Karpeles has also been caught in many lies. But I'm sure agencies like the FBI, CIA, NSA and agencies in non-us countries have experts that can read body language and do profiling of a suspect.

Body language analysis would be just one factor out of many others. I would think that body language would reveal the real intent of a person, whereas their words may not.
