Maybe he thought no one would actually look back and see all the transactions with MtGox wallets to trace the coins they had, I don't know. But the openness of the Blockchain proves that he has access to at least ~90k BTC in wallets which are proven to be MtGox wallets. Such as this 50k here: https://blockchain.info/address/1P3S1grZYmcqYDuaEDVDYobJ5Fx85E9fE9

The full details of how people are tracing it are in this article: http://www.hackingdaily.com/2014/02/mtgox-speculations.html. A lot of it goes back to when he was proving he had the coins in 2011 by doing this transaction: https://blockchain.info/tx/3a1b9e330d32fef1ee42f8e86420d2be978bbe0dc5862f17da9027cf9e11f8c4 and you can follow the coins from there and spot them moving into wallets which top off the known hotwallets from MtGox, which also makes it easy to spot the "Cold Storage" wallets.

There is still more which can probably be found as well by going through known MtGox wallets and following the transactions. Every word out of his mouth ever since he claimed to only have access to a "small" amount is just lies. Unless they lost the private keys to these wallets, which I find extremely unlikely.

I don't think anyone believes his bullshit story. None of it adds up and they haven't released any useful information. Hell, they won't even confirm that the place is insolvent (even though other sources have). I can't wait for Karpeles to end up in fedral pound me in the ass prison. Regardless of bitcoin regulation, his practices were criminal. There are lots of industries that trade commodities (not unlike Bitcoin) that are not regulated. That doesn't give them open season to start breaking criminal laws.

Clearly BTC 90k are sitting in 2 addresses. These seem to be either Gox's or Karpeles' addresses. Claims that Karpeles / Gox is left with only 2,000 coins are misleading at best (if not an outright lie).

I think the Bitcoin Foundation that has 3 goals https://bitcoinfoundation.org/about/
- standardizing bitcoin
- protecting bitcoin
- promoting bitcoin
and gives grants to scientists and businesses
should fund a grant for scientists whose aim would be fulfiling one of TBF's goals (protecting bitcoin) by finding Gox missing / / lost / stolen / hidden by inside job coins through blockchain analysis.

i think he has lost like 100k-150k bitcoins. but i checked on the blockchain two addresses that are believed to be gox's address still have 550k bitcoins left.

Mark might be able to retrieve the privkeys for cold storage, but he would probably need help:

New show coming this fall:

Blockchain CSI.

I want a hot chick in tight jeans packin' heat and a bitchin' android.....

---end fantasy---

yes, people need to start using the blockchain to find these coins to the greatest extent possible.

if it's not possible to locate/track 700,000 coins or whatever the hell it was, this claim that the open ledger is actually of any use whatsoever is kind of blown straight to hell.....
