By "market accounts", I assume you mean keeping the coins on an exchange?

The answer is NO... that is a really bad idea. You won't have access to the private keys (or seed), which means if anything goes wrong, you have very limited options with regards to recovering funds.

As will all things crypto, if you are not the sole person who has access to the private key/seeds, then you do not have control over the coins.

The most common hardware wallets like Trezor and Ledger are both "multicurrency"... and support most of the "big" cryptocurrencies. I recommend going to their respective websites and reading the FAQs and checking to see if they support the currencies you are wanting to use.

Unfortunately i am not aware of a good multicurrency wallet for a desktop pc.
Coinomi seems to be very solid and does support a lot of different currencies (120+). But unfortunately it is only available for mobile phones.

You might be able to run it in an emulator, but i doubt this would be the best option :7

From now on I'll write down everything I do.

As above, an absolute no to exchanges.

How many different coins do you want to store? If it's not a huge number then there'll likely be good enough individual wallets but nothing multi worth bothering with. Coinomi have long been threatening to release a Windows version but it's not here yet.

I personally would not have any wallet on any Windows PC.

Not much, XRP, XMR, ETH, LTC, maybe some others later on.

All of these are supported by the ledger nano s.
If the overall $-amount you hold can absorb the purchase of a hardware wallet, go for it.

It is the best combination of security and convinience. You'll be able to access them all the time with ease, while the private keys stay in a secured offline environment.

For holding the most common coins (see: ledgers supported assets) a hardware wallet probably would be the best option.

I can understand that doubt.
But running an android emulator on a linux machine to store your coins SHOULD be safer than desktop wallets on windows. But no guarantee on that.

A phone is not ideal but it is vastly preferable to any PC that ever sees usage on the internet. I would never have any wallet on any PC that was connected. I've got plenty on phones.

If you do not know anything about password and your seed then nothing can be done in this case, your best chance is to try find password or seed. You probably wrote them somewhere, and maybe you use same password for other wallets/sites. Try to remember how many characters was in the password, maybe it can be done by brute force if it's a short and simple password.

Usually (with each PROPER wallet), nothing except for bruteforcing the private key (which does only work if you had a very very weak password or you can remember the majority of your password).

But.. since you are using jaxx you might have another chance.
Jaxx has quite a few vulnerabilities which allow to extract the private keys. You might want to search for one and get/create an exploit to extract the seed / private keys.

And in the future, make sure to have a backup of your mnemonic seed. And please do NOT further use jaxx.

ANYONE can steal your coins if you are using jaxx using simple malware.
In this case, this is helpful for you. But generally this is a worst case scenario.
