I made a thread about the new antminer s9 hydro. It got trashed by the mods for some unknown reason (maybe I'll repost it in serious discussion).

I got redirected to another thread on it filled with utter shit.

All I wanted to know was how difficult the radiator for water cooling would be to add and got nothing but a deleted topic and a waste of time (don't reply to my question here though).

EDIT, my OP which I found going through my drafts.

I stubled across this today: https://shop.bitmain.com/product/detail?pid=00020180824185106363KYTqeq8S06C4

I'm wondering if, by the name and the fact there's an optional "radiator" you can buy, does this mean it's water cooled (I noticed it's quieter but :I'm not sure what 50dB sounds like, if anyone could enlighten me - I think it's fairly quiet though).

Also, will it be fairly simple to attach all the parts together does anyone know?

There you go. Another one! At-least you are not someone who will not know about the stuffs of getting a post deleted. AFAIK you are one of the member who is well aware about the rules of the forum, you are not a random guy here.

Anyway, mods and users can make mistakes. I am sure there is an explanation for that.

Update
When you are saying thread meaning you are saying it was your topic?

Well thanks for the support. I'm not entirely sure what's gone on here...

Anyway, mods and users can make mistakes. I am sure there is an explanation for that.
Yes they can, but I was warned by a user who replied to my topic that it would probably get deleted, I should've archived it with that warning (although I didn't think the warning was credible because it's a bit of an odd one)...

When you are saying thread meaning you are saying it was your topic?

Yes. A topic I made...

I went through my drafts and found it:

It would appear that the mods don't know the difference between an s9 and an s9 hydro

There has been some other complains as well about replies and threads being deleted without any known reasoning. Mods will surely have to clarify this as users would get disappointed by such things. I, personally, would definitely feel bad if any of my replies or topics get deleted while they shouldn't.

It happened to me once too.

I made a big post about mining and energy consumption. It received many merits

But the moderator in the mining board just deleted without any message.

I don't mind if he deleted my topic because he considers it trash.
However I lost what I wrote, which I worked for some minutes writing it. If I had received a pm  I would have a copy of that deleted post...

I thought that moderator was too rude not sending a pm

I remember the topic, I was the one who pointed you to the other thread; along with the backstory on the other topics.

I'm surprised that these topics aren't just being locked if they consider them to have to much overlap. It would be more helpful to maintaining a discussion. Lock the topic with a final reply.

It's not uncommon for the discussion centered around hardware to turn into a megathread, and yes not all posts can be great within those threads. It does help in preventing 50-100 threads popping up centered around every piece of hardware.

While the topic isn't starting out with a lot of great info asking your question there could help turn the discussion.

EDIT: Here is the original meta about the first 4 topics started on the subject.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4973939.0

Theymos's final reply should have served as a gentle guide to how your topic should have been handled.

Drafts only save a week's work, its limited only to hundred.

How is my thread similar to theirs?
Asking how a liquid cooling radiator could be applied to an antminer s9 hydro is similar to a general enquirey/announcement of the miner - hmmm?
I'm going to just have to find something else to do with an abundance of free electricity because clearly no one's interested in helping aspiring miners to start...

I was the one who deleted (or rather, moved to the Trashcan) jackg's topic.

The reason I deleted jackg's topic should be obvious to anyone who bothered to read the rules governing the Mining section, which are plastered at the top of every Mining board.

The relevant rule here is this:

Hardware - This is for dedicated discussion regarding BITCOIN mining hardware ONLY and hardware in development. There should be only one topic per new piece of hardware [emphasis added], preferably started by the creator of the hardware, and they can then provide support for that hardware on that one thread. Where hardware has no manufacturer representative on this forum, the thread can be started by anyone but all discussion should remain in the one thread. If the manufacturer has stared a thread but it is self moderated, then you are free to create your own personal thread to discuss that hardware and avoid the manufacturer's censorship, but discussion of actual support should go in the Mining support subsection.

When jackg posted their topic in Hardware, theymos had already restored all of the previous S9 Hydro-related threads that I had moved to the Trashcan. There were four threads: this one by Shad0wSmurf, this one by taserz, this one by coinbeamer, and the currently active one by Philopolymath. The new topic that was started by jackg was therefore redundant, and their question should have been posted in Philopolymath's thread instead.

For the record, I disagree with theymos' interpretation of the rules regarding this issue and sidehack's contention that the S9 Hydro is a distinctly new and unique model that warranted its own thread.

-ck's rule as quoted above is unequivocal in its assertion that only one unique topic may be started for a "new piece of hardware." I interpret this as meaning a distinctly new and unique model or make of mining hardware.

The S9 Hydro, in my opinion, does not qualify as a distinctly new and unique model. Here are two reasons why.

Firstly, Bitmain itself clearly did not seek to market the S9 Hydro as a distinctly new and unique model. If they did, they would not have used the S9 moniker to market the S9 Hydro. The fact that they did continue to use the S9 moniker to label the S9 Hydro shows that they intended to market the S9 Hydro as a mid-cycle upgrade that is still part of the S9 series, like how they market the S9i and the S9j as mid-cycle hardware refreshes of the stock S9.

Secondly, and flowing from the first reason, all of the miners that bear the S9 label — including the S9 Hydro — are designed and built upon the same foundation, i.e., Bitmain's 16nm chip. Others have noticed this too. The differences that sidehack mentions elsewhere seem to me as changes that were made merely to accommodate the new liquid-based cooling system and to perhaps bump up the spec sheet figures for marketing purposes. There is nothing revolutionary regarding the S9 Hydro to justify calling it an entirely new model that would qualify it for having its own thread.

Nevertheless, since theymos has decided otherwise, and being my superior, I am therefore obliged to respect his decision and to allow Philopolymath's S9 Hydro thread to remain. This does not mean, however, that I will in any way relax my interpretation and enforcement of the forum's rules.

All further discussion regarding the S9 Hydro should therefore be posted in Philopolymath's thread. The only exception here would be requests for technical support, which are to be posted in Mining Support.

After that long-winded response. I'm off to ivory tower tomorrow to post or even off topic.

I can't be dealing with so many rules of subsections to forums it makes very little sense and I don't use the mining section enough to warrant using the time to read them.

As I stated, that other thread was filled with nothing but crap I don't know why it was kept...

The S7 used the 16nm chips also so that's the same machine too Grin and it's fairly obvious that bitmain have abandoned their account here at the moment...

I've noticed a lot of users getting annoyed their threads are being deleted too...

Over moderation actually creates spam. It drives members asking reasonable questions awaay from the forum to find answers. I've had to go elsewhere to find answers to questions I've asked after they were deleted or moved. So why does this create spam? Well if decent posters have to go elsewhere for discussions, then that drops the quality of the boards, and if they have to post on the unmoderated boards like beginners or off topic, then their threads tend to get swamped with spam.

-snip-
Well, there's someone who posted something about "Overmoderation of the hardware forum" last August 29 that needs a proper response from the board's moderator(s).
Although, Admin (theymos) already responded, it would be nice if you can white a comment.

Off topic.
:I'm not sure what 50dB sounds like, if anyone could enlighten me - I think it's fairly quiet though).
50 Decibels is as quiet as a typical living room Wink & yes the topic's pretty trashy IMO.

Because the most of them Spamshit Threads full with Spam and Bot Users !

They're generally significant users, users of more significance than me anyway.

-snip-
Well, there's someone who posted something about "Overmoderation of the hardware forum" last August 29 that needs a proper response from the board's moderator(s).

That's all off topic.

And I'm trying to work out what sound 50dB sounds like. I had a measurer of it but I couldn't work out what it was similar to. In an empty room it was at about 40dB and with the tv on about 50-55dB...

Nope. Only admins have access to that info. In fact, not even sure if cyrus has full privileges theymos does for these sorts of things.
Yeah, you could both do with a nice promotion somewhere to give theymos a bit of a break (he does a lot around here which you and cyrus could probably be assigned to)...
