Would you consider adding a shares systems like several other exchanges have?
Shares would pay dividends, and the sales of shares would help cover the debt. Obviously this may require some development work, but might allow swifter recovery.
It would be great, it will help the development and overcoming difficulties _______________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________ Next Coin Lite - Fair Distribution

Raising the fees to 1.5% would mean that the users would be paying for this mistake. It doesn't make sense - take 12% of balances and then get the users to pay for it with higher fees. If fees went up many would go elsewhere, leaving the rest of us to pay even more. The users should not pay for this.

I love that you froze the exchange, as opposed to running it like gox . . .

I second this. Why higher fees? Poloniex should sell stock shares of their exchange using bitcoin.

He will refund 12.3% balance when covered stolen BTC so you will be lost 12.3% BTC or less in total.

Something is fishy here... He claims he can not repay the debt on his own but heres the math...
About $50,000 was lost by this "hack"
Exchange has around 850BTC in volume a day with a fee of 0.2% that would mean 1.7BTC or $1,147 in revenue per day. It would take him less than 2 months to repay the debt. If he raises the fees astronomically (over 7 times the current) to 1.5% than he would be making 12.75BTC or $8,606 PER DAY (at current market prices). He would be able to repay the debt in less than a week. Why doesn't he disclose the amount of the loss? I found the thief's address and amount stolen and disclosed it while he remained silent?
If he does decide to raise the fees to 1.5% and does not lower the fees back to normal after 1 week then something isn't right. It seems like the perfect plan to claim there was a "hack" then raise the prices making a double win for him.

I may be wrong on this, but I think some of you are misreading what he said. He said this would be paid back from exchange fees, not that he was raising fees. I read it several times to be sure, but I am pretty sure that's what he's saying. That being said, I like the idea of shares as others have expressed. I don't currently trade at Poloniex, but I'm just getting into alt trading and have heard good things. Sorry about the loss, and like others have said, kudos for your honesty. Hopefully this will all work out. What would be even better is if you could track down the thief and torque the coins out of 'im. EDIT: Need more coffee. It was later in the post. Please ignore the first two sentences
