the wallet i downloaded is a month behind and it will take a few days to sync!

Be patient with 1st time wallet sync. Could take a few hours. After that, sync's in minutes (or less)
Android and iPhone wallet apps in development. Those will be ready next couple of weeks (hopefully sooner...)
